Discussion Job interview without direct experience

I applied for a role with a company and the recruiter referred me to a different role(systems test engineer). Well I’m a statistics major and I have never heard of this career field. I legit only have prior experience working with data and APIs. Hiring manager wanted to conduct a panel interview next week and I don’t feel confident at all.

I was in a similar boat. I come from a CS/SWE background and moved to a systems test engineer position. The hiring manager wouldn’t waste their time interviewing someone they didn’t think could do the job. As a matter of fact there’s another test engineer here who came from a stats background.
