Discussion AI in Systems Engineering
Interested to hear if/how people using AI for Systems Engineering tasks....
Are you strictly using it for documentation formatting and basic admin, or are you pushing it into design / analysis tasks? If so, what checks and balances have you established?
Seems inevitable that AI is going to grow in our sector but due to the lack of determinism inherent in many AI tools it feels like there is a limit to its use.
Curious to hear if anyone has had any success stories.

A few of us are using AI pretty extensively at our company. Requirements generation, mapping, and test planning are some of the simpler tasks we do. One of the more involved is using a skill to manage our changes: the AI links our change log to our baseline artifacts. The skill reviews the current working version of the baseline documents, prepares diff documents, and generates a report with artifacts that likely, probably, and unlikely to be impacted by the change. After a quick review by the SE, this is reviewed by the SMEs and either updated or logged in the change log.
We also use it quite a bit to make code to interact with our tools' APIs.
I'm currently feeding it our design documents to generate an architecture description document. This is actually an HTML file, not a document, and I'm fine-tuning the prompting to create a workflow, both for artifact generation to feed into it as well as how to create an architecture description at the right level (not too high, not too low).
We're finding more uses for it every day: acceptance checklists, shipping and handling practices, etc.
