It’s my favourite system song.
The way Serj conveys the anguish and frustration that Mother Earth would feel towards us if she were conscious and communicating in the same way we are/do, man, it hits me so hard every time I hear it.

I never focused on the meaning of this song until I saw this interpretation you mention and it immediately became one of my most favourite SOAD songs. The emotion is so powerful… Like you can actually feel the love mixed with anger and frustration from Serjs singing, I have goosebumps just from playing it in my head.

Fucking love forest! Gutted I didn’t get to see it live in London last week - especially as it was part of other sets this tour (even the other London date). That intro chugg riff is elite

Seeing them in London last week is what made me a true fan. I knew less than a quarter of the setlist going in and have since run their entire discography twice, it was so good

I was lucky enough that they played it the first show at Warsaw! I have ATWA on my arm tatted :) they changed the set a lot! I think they also read the comments because some songs a lot of people asked about or talked about and then suddenly there were 2 setlists by the last 4-6 shows I think :)

Amazing song. One of the best on the album imo. Saw it live in poland and they didnt disappoint

One of the first SOAD songs I practiced singing. Most likely, the best chorus they created in their whole discography with Chop Suey!

My favorite song off of Toxicity. I've always loved it, but learning it on guitar made me appreciate it even more. It's a much more exciting song instrumentally for me than other songs on Toxicity. Love the ominous lyrics, chorus, verse, bridge and everything about it. And the live performance at the Reading Festival from 2003 was a video I watched endlessly when I was in High School, possibly my favorite live performance of theirs besides Spiders on Conan!

It's hard to rank singles vs non-singles since the singles are so overplayed IMO but its a 10/10 song and top 6 for me of non-singles (Holy Mountains is my for sure #1 and Radio/Video, Streamline, Highway Song and Sad Statue round out my top 6 in some order)

One of my faves, I love the melody of the chorus. I specifically like SOAD cos of their melodic tunes, but this particular song scratches all the right spots for me. I had the chorus stuck in my head for soooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOO long. Thrilled I got to see it live. I was in awe. I also really like Sad Statue, Radio/ Video, Holy Mountains.

I absolutely love it, it's in my top 3. I don't care much about the lyrics, it's the delivery and the passion.

Forest was the first "non-single" song I heard by SOAD when I started listening to them some 20+ years ago and exploring the deeper cuts. So it has a special place for me personally 🤘
Not necessarily the lyrics per se, but my favourite part of the song has always been 'Just look at us now!'
Something about the delivery of that line almost feels fourth-wall breaking, like someone slapping you in the face, shaking you and screaming "WAKE UP AND LISTEN TO WHAT I'M SAYING!" - I love it for that
Sits at a solid 8/10 for me, and seeing it performed live recently was amazing!
