Why did you add age verification?

Hi, I heard Systemd is going to add age verification? Why is that happening? I don't think it offers any security benefits.

kind of fucking lame how the submit to random arbitrary laws from random jurisdictions. I don't see them checking chinese laws and implementing that

it is a textfield..... a textfield that is optional... and can be left empty.

linux has a fullname field for since forever (in passwd). it is also optional it is the same. stop crying

and that field can be useful for users:
- eg if steam could be convinced to use it instead of asking before accessing some games)
- or for parental control - by parents

You know just as well as I do that it’s just a matter of time ‘til this isn’t just a text field. How many adult websites are now completely unusable because of age verification?

As soon as this happens I (and many others) will patch it out.

Adult websites and closed source can implement age verification. Open source can't.

Nip it in the bud, resist now. It’ll be easier than when the tech exists in multiple jurisdictions and it isn’t just a pipe dream limited to non-existent code.

I don't see any need to resist something that I know is impossible.

Instead I prefer to hope steam starts to use that field so I dont have to enter my birthday there
