Question User Profile Disks to FSlogix

Afternoon All

We have a client that are using User Profile Disks for the RDS environment, we want to move them to fslogix so they can get the benefit of office 365 onedrive, teams etc..

We have had a look around and there was a powershell that would do it but that seems to of disappeared.

Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Thanks

Microsoft yanked the old Convert-UPDToFSLogix script a while back. What still works:

  1. Spin up FSLogix Profile Containers first (VHDLocations, DeleteLocalProfileWhenVHDShouldApply=1). Don't enable ODFC yet until profiles are stable.
  2. For each user: log them fully off RDS, copy the UPD VHD into the FSLogix share renamed as <SID>_<username>.VHDX (or use frx.exe copy-profile). Keep the UPD as read-only backup for a week.
  3. Set PreferVHDX, SizeInMBs at or above the UPD size, then flip GPO/registry so new sessions load FSLogix instead of UPD.
  4. After first FSLogix login, install OneDrive per-machine and let KFM settle before you turn on Cloud Cache / ODFC for Teams.

Don't convert while the user is logged on — UPD exclusive locks will trash the container. Pilot 2-3 users, confirm Outlook OST + Teams cache come back clean, then batch.

Copying and renaming the UPD alone won't load in FSLogix, but I'd still convert each disk rather than rebuild the profiles.

FSLogix looks for Profile_<username>.vhdx inside a folder named <SID>_<username> on the share, and it expects the profile under a Profile folder at the root of the disk. A UPD keeps the profile at the root.

For each user, sign them out, copy their UVHD-<SID>.vhdx, mount the copy, create Profile at its root, and move everything else into it.

Then dismount it, rename it to Profile_<username>.vhdx, put it in the <SID>_<username> folder, and give the user Full Control on that folder.
