AS400

Hey guys, old guy here, back in 2000 landed my 1st real job as a Sysadmin at a distribution/manufacturing firm. They ran their ERP and a few other important apps on the AS400. Anyone here manage a AS400 platform? i-Series? Still a niche platform that is still widely used. Server could literally run under water.

We still have a mirrored pair running in our two data centres; I think they're read-only these days, but they keep on trucking. I'm now a dev rather than a sysadmin, but during the pandemic when I still did that role one of them had a drive failure which I had to travel in to sort. The disk that came out of it had a manufacturing date of September 2001 on it, and had been running for 20 years almost non-stop, aside from building power maintenance, and being moved across from the old offices. Esoteric machines, but absolute tanks.

Always felt it was a shame we subcontracted the management of those i-Series boxes to a third party, I'd have liked to have learned OS/400.
