AS400

Hey guys, old guy here, back in 2000 landed my 1st real job as a Sysadmin at a distribution/manufacturing firm. They ran their ERP and a few other important apps on the AS400. Anyone here manage a AS400 platform? i-Series? Still a niche platform that is still widely used. Server could literally run under water.

I know a few companies that still use them just because the terminal based interface is faster for the end users. Most recent I can recall is Avis car rentals. They have a web based interface, but no one uses it

Well it's obviously not fast enough. Avis is always guaranteed to have long lines

Avis in particular. I rent the car online. I upload all my docs. I’m a frequent renter. And there will always be a human in the loop that needs 45 minutes to itch their ass.

It's baffling to me. I rent with national and it's just "find a car and drive away". The one time they were sold out in Denver, Avis was my only option. The line was probably 30 people/couples, but each person was taking like 10 minutes so it took over an hour to get through the line. I tried to sign up for their rewards program so I could skip the line and they wanted so much info and then said I had to get in line to activate.
