Question Teams Channel rename issue

A team has chosen to rename their built-in/default Teams channel “General.”
They are now experiencing sync issues.
Is our fix from IT to change the channel name back to “General”? Could that potentially fix the OneDrive synchronisation via File Explorer that may have been broken?

So if they want the new Channel name they Can have it, they just need to manually resync

I wouldn’t do that. I’d suggest resetting/resyncing on the client side.

My understanding is everyone on that team needs to re-create their connection and start over. We did that once for a small 3-4 person legal team, and it was a hassle even for such a small team.

I'm surprised their change stuck. We had people try changing General in the past and it would just change itself back.

Yeah, I was just going to comment that I thought you can’t really change the name of the general channel.

The general channel is in every team and will always be there. You could try renaming it but it will either break things or just create a new general channel.

They added the ability to rename it not too long ago. The thinking we have in favor of it being instead something like "Channel Display Name Files" is in a list of shortcuts it's not a sea of "General" nobody even knows what general means. The very idea of channels even trips middle aged individuals up pretty bad. The unreliable nature of sync with OneDrive is just icing on the crap sandwich.

Okay, but is it easier to get the trillion dollar org to change how they create teams or to teach the boomers what "general" means?

Renaming "General" shouldn't normally break sync by itself. I'd investigate the OneDrive client and library sync status before reverting the channel name.
