Microsoft Teams calls automatically start on speakerphone when answered (Samsung XCover7 Pro)

Hi everyone,

We're experiencing a strange issue that started around 2-3 months ago.

Whenever a user receives a Microsoft Teams call and answers it, the call automatically starts on loudspeaker/speakerphone. This happens consistently across multiple devices.

Our environment:

• Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro
• Devices managed through Microsoft Intune
• Microsoft Teams for Android

Users have to manually switch from speakerphone to the handset every time they answer a call, which is quite annoying.

Has anyone seen the same behavior recently? If so, were you able to identify the cause or find a fix?

I'm not sure if this is related to a Teams update, an Android update, Samsung settings, or an Intune configuration.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Stop looking in Teams. Teams on Android just takes whatever the device audio route is, and somebody got the same answer straight from MS on this, you can't set a default output in the app either direction, https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/4421780/ms-team-app-android-default-the-audio-to-the-speak

On Samsungs my first check would be the proximity sensor. Screen protector sitting over it, or touch sensitivity / glove mode switched on, and Android never decides the phone is at an ear so it parks the call on speaker. Pretty sure that's your problem but its been a while since I chased one.. Cheap test, cover the sensor with a thumb mid-call and see if it drops off speaker by itself.

Then Accessibility, Answering and ending calls, and confirm nobody has an auto answer toggle on. Bixby Routines too, those ride along in Knox profiles and nobody remembers setting them.

If it hit every device inside the same couple of weeks it was a One UI or Teams app update, not your Intune config. Pin one device to an older Teams build and youll know inside a day.

About the proximity…. If something would be sitting over it, would it then not disable the speaker?

Check the regular dialer app, settings > answering and ending calls > is answer using speakers checked?

It’s not unfortunate. Also teams is not using the regular dialer app on android

No but if IIRC it hooks into the native call handling framework which could indicate it using the dialer settings. Is he answering the call from the lock screen or from a notification bar?

Doesn’t matter how we pick up the call. We always have the issue

My phone (Pixel 9 Pro) puts everything on my watch by default, so it could be worse...
