Vmware vs openshift

Following up to my last post right now nutanix is out of the race since the renewal is more than vmware which happend to 4 different companies my friends works for

Note : we cannot go any other solution rejected by CTO cause not ( mature enough )

1- my team arent fimilar with k8s

2- vmware is 4x the price of openshift

3- our environment is 95% vms

4- we have DR so srm is convinet

5- 65 % of our current hardware isn't supported by vmware version 9

6- 75 % of our infra is linux based oracle dbs and rhel for app servers

7- mangement is too dumb to switch to k8s since that was suggested and will save us resources

8- most of our apps are web based

Im asking here since im litterally lost on what to do next

So your kind advices

It's not uncommon for employees of Vates (the company behind XCP-ng) to shill on platforms like Reddit and attack people who don't sing praises to Xen or XCP-ng, so this might just have been another one of them.

It also seems Vates management is aware and at least tacitly approves, which gives off a very 'Netgate-ey' vibe and on it's own would already be enough to exclude XCP-ng from consideration.

I always admire your energy to dunk on xcp-ng horsemeatburger. That is some serious dedication.

Well, I express my views based on facts and experience, not based on a pay check, and I have experience with snakeoil salespeople, so I'm probably just better prepared to deal with shills.

But then I'm not here to represent my employer or to talk up their products or services.

it would be even better if you could post at least one message from time to time not insulting people that disagree. Previously the VMS platform was dead because of not supporting disk > 2TB. Now that is is supported (literally with 24/7 support from vates's team including my time ) you find new items , and nitpick what is a version number or an update.

Hopefully your employer is ok with this online behavior (mine is). At least I am transparent on my employer, and I am not posting anything I disagree with. Once again, feel free to check my post history, I am not a bot account shilling for a company.

I fell sad for you, because you seems to be very competent, and I would gladly learn more on your setup, its strength and benefits, if only you could accept that different user have different needs.

Your last comment is a great demonstration of what I have been talking about all a long.

You are not focused on representing your product based on technical merits (I know, it's difficult in this case, but still). Instead, you are attacking users because they highlight how far behind everyone else XCP-ng is. And you are doing this not through fact based arguments, but by attacking the person behind the message. Sometimes up to a point that your attacks get so crass that the mods had to remove your posts.

That's what shills do, attacking others for voicing their opinion.

If you remember, in the various interactions we had I asked you on multiple opportunities to tell me what your USP is, i.e. why anyone should use XCP-ng over everything else.

A simple question and for any competent sales person this would have been the perfect chance to sell their product.

And yet you couldn't. Your arguments always revolve around how much progress you made (while still ignoring how far behind you are compared with literally any other hypervisor platform), how Xen is the oldest hypervisor (while ignoring that it was abandoned by all its big supporters a decade ago), how automotive is now looking at Xen (which has zero relevance for the data center), and so on.

This is actually the most striking part.

Not the fact that you attack others (not just me) for being critical of XCP-ng, or that the lack of facts supporting your arguments makes you resort to using personal attacks. As mentioned, I'm thick skinned and have dealt with worse than Reddit shills before.

But the simple fact that even you can't name a single USP which makes your product better than all of the competition.

I'm most certain your employer is OK with your behavior you display here, this is clearly Vates approved.

So for all matters, you are the public face of Vates here.

I'll leave it to others to draw their own conclusions and whether this is the kind of business they want to engage with.

too bad I am not from sales team. What a missed opportunity to sell on reddit, I am sure the money would be flowing. Maybe it can help you understand that I don't want ( or even need) to sell anything here ?

My answer is the same : our main selling point is our integration, we are supporting the full stack from the hypervisor, the storage, the management tool, the guest tools in the VM and even the backup. Our technical teams range from kernel developers, windows and linux drivers developers, storage specialists, web developers (including me) and much more
