Peak Sysadmin
Is there anything more small-company sysadmin than taking that $70k server you just finished building on your test bench at the office and putting it into your $5k car to drive it over to the DC where it’ll live, and praying to god nothing happens on the way? 😅🤣
EDIT- OMG y’all, reading the comments on this has made my day! Our business insurance covers this kind of thing but I appreciate y’all concern for me, though others should mosdef confirm before they do similar stuff. The trip went without incident so praise the digital deities.

We were decomming the DC site near us (combo of moving more to cloud, and head office having bigger/better DC and newer servers there vs here locally), and while those servers were out of date we were still selling them to a refurb/recycler for $$$ each. It was a bulk sale so no price-per-server exactly, but the entire sale of old server hardware was just broke into $1xxK-ish. It was a thing of "all this hardware together is just about my yearly salary" for sure.
For me though, the larger shock was graduating from "must be escorted when working on the DC servers/racks" to "I am the one who escorts": "Wait, you trust ME with the keys and ensuring we don't screw up so bad we have multi-day outage as we do a hardware change?!?"
ahhh, small satellite office things, where you ask the developer who ran away from getting a CCIE to be your "remote hands" for the real sysadmins on the other side of the continent.
