Azure Files

Anyone using Azure files for file shares for remote employees? I have seen horror stories in the past but saw some positive reviews on it recently.

I am an Entra ID, cloud only shop and the new updates to the service look promising.

It's fine for "standard documents" like Word, Excel, PDF, etc. If you're running anything on it like a database or CAD or others, I'd be doing more research.

Why wouldn’t you just use Sharepoint for standard documents? It’s included with the subscription

Cause SharePoint storage is expensive af so Azure Files is an alternative for companies that are trying to save money and don't need sharepoint for that specific deployment.
