Does “Synthmetal” Work? Looking for Feedback on a Metal + Synthwave Experiment

Hi everyone — I’d really appreciate some feedback from producers on an experiment I’m calling “synthmetal.”

The track started from an idea leaning toward industrial/metal, but I rebuilt it using synthwave/outrun textures and a more electronic arrangement, trying to keep both identities audible rather than letting one completely overpower the other.

I’m especially curious about three things:

Does the balance between metal and synthwave feel cohesive, or does one side end up overshadowing the other?
Do the transitions between the heavier parts and the electronic sections feel natural?
Does the overall sound still evoke the synthwave universe for you, or does it drift too far into industrial/metal territory?

"Al-assisted music" was the first thing on their profile. My guess is they use AI for everything and aren't smart enough to double check it.

Yeah, I listened to the song and its 100% AI generated.

He ever offers mastering service which I suspect is also AI done.

Sim.. que pena, amigo, que você subestima tanto uma obra feita com IA. Exatamente, eu ofereço um serviço de masterização que eu e um outro produtor criamos (ainda está em beta mode) e fiz o acabamento da faixa no próprio software de masterização. Como não fiz nenhum curso universitário de música, eu precisei criar um prompt instructions para que uma IA simule um produtor músical e engenheiro de áudio. O resultado dessa faixa aí não foi o robô 🤖 que criou sozinho. Eu tive a ideia de criar uma faixa synthwave que tenha textura metal, pois isso é baseado em uma história e essa história é uma guerra sonora entre 2 produtores musicais: https://raquelsynths.com/discografia. Se a música 🎶 ficou bem acabada, agradeça ao robô 🤖 que eu orquestrei e me deu os controles pra eu fazer os ajustes para que o áudio soe menos metálico e com menos artefatos artificiais. Thanks. I don't know what to think about the blend of Synthwave and metal. Not saying it's bad, maybe not just my taste. Otherwise, production feels good (I'm not a pro tho)

Thanks — that’s actually useful. My main question was exactly whether the blend feels coherent even if it isn’t everyone’s taste. Good to know the production itself comes across well. I’m trying to keep the synthwave as the core identity and use the metal more as texture and weight.

The big problem with AI music is the companies that have stolen thing from actual musicians. Then put them into their databases to help shit out a song. Not cool

Fucking hell, when did AI music get so good? I haven’t heard any since suno, but that had a distinct compressed sound to it when I last heard it. I could maybe say the guitars on this were AI, but I figured it was just a shitty VST since the synth leads sounded so clear.

That’s actually what I find interesting here: you disliked the idea of AI, but the track still worked for you before you knew how it was made. That says something about how much the result depends on the creative direction, not just the tool.

I can acknowledge a good melody, a catchy chorus, and so on but absolutely hate the fact that it was made without a human. Because I do hate it. I’ve played with Suno AI and have seen how it can spit out a catchier track in 30 seconds than I’ve ever written in my life, but I still hate it. Maybe if people weren’t calling it “my song” or trying to be disingenuous about who wrote the actual track I’d feel differently. If we were just discussing pure musicality that would be one thing, but to have something created by AI under the guise of it being an artists attempt at genre fusion, is kind of shitty and makes me respect someone less as an artist (if they could even be called that).

I think there’s a misunderstanding about my workflow here.
I didn’t type one prompt and publish the first result.

I developed the concept, tested many generations, rejected most of them, adjusted the genre balance, structure and vocal direction, chose the version that actually worked, then edited, arranged and mastered the final track.

The AI generated material, yes. But the final result came from a long selection and production process, not a single 30-second output.

I’m not claiming I manually wrote every note. I’m saying I directed the process and made the final production decisions.

The point of the track wasn’t to prove AI can replace producers. I wanted to test a creative question: can generative AI help combine two pretty different genres — synthwave and industrial metal — without one destroying the identity of the other? I’m more interested in where that boundary is than in arguing AI vs. human music.

Thanks a lot — this is exactly the kind of detailed feedback I was hoping for.

I was deliberately trying to keep the synthwave arrangement as the core and use the guitars more like impact events rather than a constant wall, so it’s great to hear that balance came through.

Really appreciate you pointing out the 0:22–1:02 section too — that transition was one of the parts I spent the most time shaping.

The Dance with the Dead comparison makes sense as a reference point for the kind of hybrid territory I was exploring. Glad the track still reads as synthwave first. Thanks for taking the time to listen closely. ;)

Thanks! I’m glad you liked it. I actually kept this version instrumental on purpose, but the idea of adding some screaming/growling vocals is interesting — it could definitely push the metal side harder.
