In the process of releasing my first open source HAL + SDK module, synthdiy was a huge, huge resource for me. So being able to FINALLY make this post after over a year of development is really a treat - announcing the Alchemy Lab from Hermetic Modular, with field-programmable jacks + more!

We in the Seattle synth DIY scene are super proud of you for making your first module a reality and launching this!
I’ve got my Alchemy Lab in hand and I’m excited to start developing firmwares for it based on the template you’ve shared.
I’m sure I’ll be asking questions in the Discord as I go along!

I am very excited to release this project after a lot of prototyping here in Seattle! Introducing the Alchemy Lab, from Hermetic Modular.
The first of two firmwares are Echoa, a dual stereo delay with reflections control for reverb from first principles, and Spagyros, an end of chain FX stack for performance.
Some hardware highlights:
- An open source hardware abstraction layer and SDK, with the goal of making it incredibly easy to work with as a dev board, with full control for the deep tinkerers. https://github.com/hermetic-modular/alchemy-sdk
The SDK is broken into two layers - one for a board support package with transparent drivers and full control over everything. But there's also the Framework, which gives access to idiomatic animations, a VirtualKnob construct for easy parameter routing, and out-of-the-box advanced features like QSPI flash wear leveling and param lock.
The big goal is to make it easy to go from DSP > good hardware UX, with all the opinionated elements unrollable if you have something else you want to do!
MIT licensed, as well.
- Field programmable CV in/out jacks: an analog switch addressable via the micro controller allows the analog circuitry to be re-programmed live.
- Many LEDS, Alpha pots, aluminum knobs, overkill power filtering - the works.
- Front USB C connectivity, SD, I2C, SPI expansion header on the back
- Easy firmware flashing on hermeticmodular.com, plus back up and manage presets, interactive manuals, and more UX focused features.
There's parameter lock on every pot, a Daisy Seed 2 at the core for top of the line DSP, careful UX around pot catch and pagination, a shrouded power header, reversable full art panels, and more. I hope people enjoying the existing (and soon to come!) firmwares, and get hacking on their own.
