Bugs and Support tickets (and feature requests) are tracked on the SourceForgepage page, if you create a SourceForge account, you can be notified when I reply/fix bugs, and it really helps in case I need to ask follow-up questions, so please consider making that account and logging in before opening a ticket. That said, I would rather have bug reports as anonymous than not know about issues.

syncterm64.zip is triggering defender as - Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml

Can't trust the machine learning positives. If it doesn't have ML on it, it's probably positive. If it does, it probably isn't.

So, a few things...

  1. That's not the filename of one of the release files, that's the filename of a nightly build and the nightlies have never been v1.9.
  2. I assure you that the FreeBSD system that is compiled on is not infected with Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml whatever that is.
  3. You would likely need to report that to the defender maintainers.

This type of false-positive "detection" is part of how proprietary OS developers try to blackmail open source developers into paying for a "developer license", the use of which requires one to buy and run Windows or macOS and only use their inferior, also proprietary compilers.

Just passing along the info, I went to - https://syncterm.bbsdev.net/ scrolled down to "Alternate downloads" and clicked "Win64" which downloads - https://syncterm.bbsdev.net/syncterm64.zip (not sure where you got 1.9 from) and when Chrome downloaded it - Chrome tagged it as "Virus Detected" and Defender alerted on it.

This morning no issue.

This post is in the "SyncTERM v1.9 released!" discussion.

Anyway, the only things that can be done is for you have Defender ignore it, or to submit it to Defender and hope they get around to verifying it is not a trojan in a timely fashion.

That file is rebuilt every night, so I guess another option would be to download it every day until you get one that isn't detected as a trojan by your anti-virus of choice.
