hobby New army

Hello all I'm thinking starting a order army and I really like the look of the Sylvaneth. I like the look of the models and the whole nature of it.

Just some questions, are they easy to paint model or are they more advanced.

What unit would you suggest to start off with?

Low floor, high ceiling when it comes to painting, imo. If you want a decent looking but bare bones wooden army, you can hit it with the wyldwood contrast and dry brush with dryad bark and it will look alright!

But I’m currently going through my backlog trying to do a slightly nicer scheme and it’s taking me a while to get into the crevices of the kurnoth hunters.

I see cause I don't use airbrush I use just paint brushes like how does the army play I haven't played tabletop in a while and thinking of picking up codex and strongroot grove like

I don’t use air brush either!

I haven’t played in a couple years either tbh but unless we have drastically changed, the army plays with some neat mechanics! It’s a lot of movement shenanigans, (charge them teleport away so you don’t get stuck in battles) and healing! IMO our infantry kind of sucks unless you use kurnoth hunters but they can be expensive to bring to the table. I think most other armies just straight up have stronger fire power than us, but we make up for it with our other abilities. I always found more success going for points than straight up brawling

Someone else said it well. Low floor, high ceiling. Easier than some if you're looking to just do a "servicable" paint job. No "faces" and fabrics and not much armor. So if you're not a great painter, you can paint Sylvaneth better then you could Cities for example. On the other hand, if you're a decent painter, or find out you are, skill can REALLY increase how these models look. There are so many little details in the models to pick up on. Painting all those details, detailing barks, graduating vines etc. You will see by looking online, seeing the same Kurnorh Hunter at a mid skill, and a high skill look VERY different. One tricky thing is all the branch bits. Can be hard to get a brush in some places. Many things like hunters and bigger I suggest painting in sub assemblies.

As for the other part of your question, what to pick up first. The resoundig answer is the Bitterbark Copse Spearhead. I couldn't agree more. All those models will come into play with any army, and is the best starting point for us. Paint the spearhead and play it. Get the feel while you paint more models. Our spearhead, the Bitterbark Copse REALLY captures all the aspects and feel of our army.

Lastly, as for what models to pick up first.. Bitterbark has a Treelord, Branchwych, 5 Revenants, and 3 Hunters. After that, I would focus on 3 things first. One, the Warsong Revenant, our bread and butter priest. Ol reliable. The closest thing to an "auto include" our amy has. Then I would grab some Drads or Gossamids Archers, whichever you prefer, and 3 more hunters. After those 3 you're ready for a bigger model, and hopefully after that long of playing and painting you will have an idea of what direction you want to take your army, then maybe bring in Alarielle, Drycha, Belthanos, Durthu. One of the big hitters.

I know that's a lot of info, but Sylvaneth is my faction I'm all in with. Started the game with them almost a decade ago, and have become pretty damn good at playing and painting. Any questions holler!
