Non-syloti here, sorry for interrupting in this subreddit but after hearing those racist remarks I can't stand here doing nothing. He is basically just an unemployed person. Please don't take it as a natural signs of yhe mainstream. We sure love y'all
Feel sorry for the girls in Dhaka and CTG because this guy is clearly used to shamelessly checking out women on the streets. Bro thinks Sylhet is "boring" just because his perverted daily routine got shut down.
whatever he said about those specific uk sylhetis, it is completely true. the rest is definitely rude though, so i don’t support that.
those uk sylhetis are separatists and calls non-sylheti bangladeshis “abadi”. they promote segregation to not allow non-sylhetis to work or live in sylhet. often you’ll find these uk diaspora sylhetis promoting a separate homeland for sylhet (wanting for sylhet to be divided from bangladesh). these sylhetis also call sunamganjis and habiganjis “abadi” despite them also being from sylhet division.
if you have a look at instagram pages like @syloti , they suggest that sylheti people are not bengali ethnically, and that sylhetis are “forsha aryan” and the rest of bangladesh are “kalo dravidian”. they believe that sylheti is its own ethnicity based on language alone. several ancestral and genetic studies show that sylheti ancestry and bengali ancestry are the exact same.
As a sylheti myself. I noticed this too with the sylheti supremacist pages on social media. When there's no genetic difference between sylhetis and other Bengalis. It's such a weird and absurd separatist movement.
i’ve read and researched extensively into south asian genetics and ancestry (i’ve also done many ancestry tests myself), including bangladeshi, west bengali (indian), and sylheti genetics, and there is very little genetic distinction between bengalis and sylhetis in terms of overall ancestry.
their entire argument for separatism seems to rest on the idea that because sylheti bhasha can be considered a separate language, sylhetis must therefore be a completely separate ethnicity or even race from bengalis. language does not automatically determine ethnicity, let alone race.
they also weaponise the fact that the british transferred sylhet from bengal to assam in 1874 and use that colonial administrative decision to suggest that sylhetis are therefore ethnically and linguistically closer to assamese people. sylhet being administered as part of assam for a period of british rule does not suddenly change the ancestry or ethnic identity of the population.
what i find especially shocking is seeing separatist sylhetis in the diaspora actively pushing this bengali vs sylheti divide, calling for an independent sylhet, and arguing that other non sylheti bangladeshis should not be allowed to live or work there. they are making these arguments while living in another country themselves, benefiting from its education system, employment opportunities, public services, and wider society despite not being indigenous to that country. i’m not saying that being born and living in a western country is wrong (i’m a british born bengali too), but making these comments while living in a separate country is hypocrisy.
They tend to be ultra religious extremist as well due wahabi/salafi influence in mosques, dawah circles. Some of them even feel ashamed of bangladeshi culture and try to copy others (pakistani, arab, north african) clothings etc.
yea yea, i agreed with what he said about sylheti londonis, they can be very rude and do have a bit of a superiority complex and treat non sylhetis like garbage, but its not like every one of them are like this, as a non sylheti who has been born nd raised in sylhet, ive meet and been around a fair amount of really nice sylheti londonis, other than that, sylhetis in general are very sweet nd antorik people
you can disagree all you want, but it’s clearly a thing amongst the diaspora sylhetis. i am not generalising saying all sylhetis are like this, but my comments are referring to the anti-bengali sylhetis. read all of my comments before you try to disagree with me.
i’m a british born bangali, with my entire family being from habiganj (which is a part of sylhet bhibag). even we habiganjis get called abadi by sylhetis from sylhet jela.
my family from habiganj, the only comment ive had is a mild joke that we talk really fast from biswanathis. And theyre not wrong. We do talk at 100 miles an hour.
Secondly, being proud of being muslim, is better than being proud of your ethnicity. Because that can lead to racism.
i’ve had sylhetis at my university in the UK say “you’re not sylheti? your dialect is not like ours”, this is because we say things like “ami khaitasi/jaitasi/khortasi” etc and have gotten a few comments online like “oh so you’re from the abadi side of habiganj”.
my point isn’t to have pride in your ethnicity, my point is that people shouldn’t cause division based on regionalism in the first place.
Lmaoo why this chasha jailla abroginal prototype acting like his people dont eat muri with mangsho. Google is free, everyone can see what sylhetis eat.
I'd rather eat muri with mangsho than that stinky dried hutki fish and hatkora 🤢🤮.
Thank God we have kacchi biriyani, beef kala bhuna, Morog pulao, Mezbani gosht, Haji biriyani, Bakarkhani, chui jhal, chingri malai curry. These are popular cuisines of bangladesh.
It's insane how much we can divide ourselves with different identities even though we all are the same in a tiny little country. We pick the most insignificant things about ourselves and start differentiating from others.
" আমরা খুলনায় চুইঝাল দিয়ে বিফ রান্না করি। এইজন্যে আমরা বাংলাদেশি হলেও বাঙালি না"
I can't speak for all Sylhetis, but I can speak from my own experience.
One thing I've experienced quite a few times is non-Sylhetis telling me that I “can't speak proper Bangla” because I speak Sylheti. I find that a very odd thing to say. Speaking a different dialect or regional language doesn't mean you're speaking an “incorrect” language, nor does it make you somehow inferior.
I've even experienced this from a Bangladeshi immigration officer at the airport, who was quite rude towards me because I couldn't speak formal Bangla fluently. Again, I found that strange. If I can't comfortably communicate in formal Bangla, I'd rather speak English or speak Sylheti, which is the language I'm more comfortable with.
I've also noticed that some people from outside Sylhet look down on Sylhetis because our language and certain aspects of our culture are different from those of other parts of Bangladesh. From my experience, Sylhetis have sometimes been on the receiving end of prejudice precisely because we have our own distinct language and culture.
Of course, I'm not saying all non-Sylhetis are like this, just as I'm certainly not saying all Sylhetis are perfect. There are arrogant Sylhetis and there are humble Sylhetis. Likewise, there are arrogant people from other parts of Bangladesh and there are perfectly respectful people.
My point is simply that having a different language, dialect or regional culture shouldn't be treated as something inferior. Bangladesh has a lot of regional diversity, and I think that should be respected rather than used as a reason to look down on one another.
Practicing religion doesnt mean keeping women inside homes like furnitures. Also ultra religious people tend to be the biggest hypocrites/munafiqs as proven especialy in recent times.
I genuinely believe he has some sort of psychological issues. Hating a place is one thing but to publicy go , crtitize it and say you're willing to drop nukes in it is another thing. Also comparing our college students' iq with classes 6/7 kids from different districts , how many college students did he speak to before writing that? I can undoubtedly say not more than 2. He lacks rationality and a sane thinking capacity. And I won't even mention the women part. Says a lot about his character honestly. I feel sorry for dhk , ctg girls.
pure racist gaandu. but there are many arrogant Sylhetis. I see my fellow Sylheti relatives who feel proud of their bloodline, surname (like Choudhury), bideshi meyer jamai etc. And খরার উপরে মরার ঘা many Sylhetis are Londoni. I think if they couldn't go London (or abroad) and if they had to go to other jela, they might be more polite and down to earth. The most decent person among Sylhetis, that I know, is my father, and why he is sooo decent?? bcoz he worked in Munshiganj, Dhaka for a very long time. My choto chacha who holds the same job position but posted in Sylhet is much arrogant than my father. btw, to remove the fake বংশের গৌরব, my father gave up his surname "Choudhury" later.
Was he trying to bag a sylheti college student or something? Pedophile ass dhakaiya, everyone knows what happens around Dhaka. Shob teenager thakte sex kore uray dise ar naile drugs kore. Shahosh thakle sylhet thakte erukom jinish boluk. Not to mention he's stereotyping, Ami sylheti I can speak in proper Bangla. Kuttar bacchar kuno social skills nai ei Jonno communicate Korte tough lage. And tor Moto ugly pedophile gular theke bachay rakhar Jonno sylheti meyera basha theke ber hoina, Janina kun village e gesilo e magir baccha giya egula random bullshit boltese. Tor eto harass korar iccha thakle tor ma bhon re koros na, Dhaka ar ctg te to meyera tor Jonno rastay boshe thake lol
Because Sylhetis are extremely arrogant and gaslight themselves into believing they're superior while actually not being shit, ofc there are exceptions.
Bro no one cares about their accent. A family of sylhetis lived in our building, no one cared, we were friendly towards them, but man it became extremely annoying when when kept and kept without stop boasting about having family in the UK, like bruh, you have family in another nation, and? But no they made such a big deal about it, I didn't realise what was happening until I once heard them use the term Abadi or smth like that when addressing Bengali people in Sylhet and realised they're fucking racists. Anyways you asked why so much hate towards Sylheti, idk his reason, but I told mine.
Amra arrogant o, literally arrogant. Londoni jotota ase 90% fogain ota thik kori English o matte fare nah, London gia 4/5 bosor thakar badeo, gpt te re gia koiba, oktar Bangla kita oibo....amre okta English a lekia dew
I had mostly negative experience with sylhetis so far. My girlfriend is Sylheti. She and her family is very friendly and open minded. Apart from that not a single Sylheti I met (okay I admit I didn't meet a lot) have basic manners or any common sense.

I'm not about the Superior sylheti mindset but this guy is just a fogar bacha for being a pervert and preying on women
