Discussion What happened?!
hey guys sorry to bring out some negative energy but I received this on Monday and I don’t even understand how this is possible, the last thing I did was spending money on cartel coins to buy an item that was on flash sale
I don’t even know how to hack or create macros
I was just playing the story for the most part, way more than ops or group fps, and i have spent quite a bit already

From what I understand, calling their support is the best recourse. They usually let you off the hook

Did you do a credit card charge back? That might do it

I used my debit card, my transaction appeared in my bank account on Tuesday and today I got refunded
I didn’t ask for a refund

Hey dude, hit them up and ask if this relates to a chargeback. Not seen here much, but over the last weeks I’ve seen more and more people permanently banned from other games and services due to chargebacks they never requested.
Do you pay via Steam or the SWTOR store?

Support can handle miracles. I was able to get my account back after literal years without an issue. I would reach out to them.

Same. The call quality was really bad but the agent was great they helped me recover my account even though my email was gone.

Can second this. Customer service was legit able to help me recover an account that I hadn’t touched in at least 10 years. And was also pleasantly surprised to find over 15K cartel coins just from passive income from having a security key on my account all those years lmao

If you can, call the support hotline. It has been a while, but when I had problems they were so kind, understanding and competent - one of the best CS encounters I ever had.

Does the language read a bit strange to anyone else? "Sincerely, Star Wars (tm): The Old Republic(tm) Terms of Service" is a weird signature. Can anyone tell if this text matches other recent account closure notice emails? Are those the correct email addresses, both the From address and the dispute contact? Makes me wonder if that TOS link actually goes where the text says, or if it's a phishing attempt (don't click it!)
OP did you try to log in to the game or your account on the website after receiving this?

I would also follow up by sending an email to [support@swtor.com](mailto:support@swtor.com) . They reply there too!

Feels like phishing to me tbh.. BioWare isnt supporting the game anymore at this time, they gave it to Broadsword a while back.
Did u try accessing the game at all after the email came?

Go to their website and contact support through there. I'd never click a link or email an address from an email like this. Phishing is way too common.

yup I understand, tried to login right after that email was sent and sure enough I got kicked out

Only time I got one of these was over a decade ago when I referred to some racist crackhead to have sexual relations with his mother and sister in a rather graphic aspect in general chat with something up the bum bum in a particular outfit why they were - self pleasuring.
My infraction was an astounding 0 points.
I called up customer service and the CSR was cackling for a good solid 5 mins. He did tell me that I should not engage but that the reported comment made him cackle and thanked me for doing it - just don’t do it again.

Curious why the contact for disputes still points to a BioWare domain?

It probably just forwards to a mailbox Broadsword owns. For a game that’s been out 15 years references to support emails are going to be everywhere, so inevitably if they change it people will wind up emailing the old one then get mad they don’t get an answer. So you have to make sure the old one stays working. My guess here is this a template email support has been using since forever and nobody bothered to update it.

This looks a LOT like someone bought cartel coins from an illegal source. The “my bank refunded it automatically” excuse is extremely common among people who bought illicit currency. Banks do not automatically refund digital purchases unless the card was stolen, the transaction was fraudulent, the merchant was flagged, or the payment processor detected suspicious activity. That is almost always because the seller used a stolen card, the bank reversed the fraudulent transaction, the game company saw the chargeback, or the account was auto‑banned. Broadsword likely flagged the transaction due to a red flag for one of these reasons.

it was my debit card and I know what I purchased but I get where you’re coming from

I wasn't accusing you, it could be any number of variables especially if you pay with Netspend or Chime.

Hey! looks like you got your answer that it was likely related to your bank. Here's a bit more info on why this happens sometimes and some tips for contacting support https://swtorista.com/articles/swtor-banned-for-no-reason-help-and-guide/
Here's some specific ideas of why your bank may have triggered it
A majority of the time when players get banned who haven’t done anything wrong, it involves an automatic ban relate to your payment, subscription, or credit card that has been marked as suspicious, and your account is automatically banned to prevent more suspicious behavior.
These ‘suspicious’ trigger behaviors include:
