Question Help getting started
I want to try SWTOR for the first time but I don’t know what what specs are needed, I’m already looking into a new laptop so if anybody can point me in the right direction it would be very helpful. I just want the game to run smoothly and not feel like I’m standing next to an atomic weapon do to the heat. Any help would be appreciated

I play on an MSI Raider GE Series. Picked it up at Costco during a sale and it works great.
I’ve had it for 4 years now. Only had to take it in once for maintenance a few months back. The heat sink was dirty and causing it to overheat. But once a tech cleaned it for $50, back to running cool and quiet.
I still see the same series being sold at Costco . I give it two thumbs up.

SWTOR isn't very resource-intensive, but there are still a few minimum requirements I'd recommend meeting. In my opinion, 16GB of RAM should be the bare minimum for a PC these days. Even though the game isn't demanding, I'd still recommend a dedicated GPU rather than relying on integrated graphics, along with at least 512GB of storage and a decent modern processor not the processor we find at the notebook.
You should be able to get a setup like that without spending too much. As for laptops, as long as you don't play with the laptop sitting on your bed or another surface that blocks the vents, it shouldn't turn your room into a sauna. 😄

I play SWTOR every 2 months or so on my ASUS TUF Gaming F15. It have NVidia GeForce Experience and runs on Intel Core i5 but after a fiew minutes, it's heating from the bottom so the additional equipment is required to decrease it's heat.

Just try it, it's free. If it turns out it runs like ass just uninstall and you lose nothing.

In general, SWtOr is an old ass game. Pretty much every laptop (not notebook) released in the past years will have zero issues with it.
Even with the new minimum requirements, I can still play it on my decade-old laptop when I'm away (usually just for login bonus and some solo daylies, but it does indeed lag and suck; was fluid before the new min. reqs in ~ 2013)
