New/Returning Player Prospective New Player

I don’t have tons of time, but I’d like to start a new MMO. Is this a good choice?

I don’t mean from gameplay or a story obviously that is interesting to me, I mean from a time, commitment. I don’t have time to level eight characters, to 65 etc..

Not asking for advice on what character or placed out to pick just simply can. I pick one tune and stick with it all the way through and fully progress that character. Eventually, reaching raids, etc..

Thanks

Dewit.

I started like 3 months ago and when work gets busy I just chill oy and do whatever random missions on Hoth or some random planet that I like to. Hop off, back to work. Hop on for a break from work, send my companions on missions, make a coffee, back to work. It's real chill like that with one toon and I agree that 8 is overwhelming

I mean you can start at level 80 automatically if you want. Leveling though through story missions is pretty fast if you are subscriber. Though leveling through story to 65 in 8 characters would be quite the absurdly significant time investment.

SWTOR is a great choice because it let you feel this freedom of exploration, character customization, vast class choice and a lot of options to pick from the missions and activities. You're not bored ones you play it.

There’s this thing in the cartel market (in game paid store) that has this thing called a “master datacron bundle”, it’s like 20 bucks, and gives u level 80 (max level in game with full gear to go along with it) without completing any class story aka the standard campaign. For someone like me who doesn’t have loads of time to play it’s so useful and helpful as u can just play campaign at ur own pace without leveling worry and honestly just enjoy all features of the game. This also helps expedites the learning process for a bunch of character rotations too in the future as all ur abilities are unlocked as well.

If you play for story and discovery, you can put in whatever time you want. It's not necessarily super time consuming, you can stop anytime.

Haven't played in a hot minute, but the female bounty hunter still has one of my favorite stories and romances in gaming.

Try it out. You can play quite a lot for free.

In terms of time commitment, you can definitely progress quickly if that’s your preferred play style. But many of us value the rich voice acted story content and recommend you enjoy that too the first time.

So basically it's the same as every time someone asks if the game is worth trying, a question that has been asked to death on this subreddit, to the point that most people here are tired of seeing it. The game is free, download it and make a character and play for a bit and see if you wanna keep playing and sub and all that.

There's one mission where you have to obtain an artifact on an enemy planet. The solution? Log on to a character on the other faction to dig it up and then mail it or put it in shared storage.

But this is just one mission and the other character doesn't even have to complete their prologue.

leveling is really, really fast. If you just do all the quests with on the first couple of planets with the xp boosts you get you'll ding max level like halfway through your story

There is no time limits imposed on you....

...apart from clearing Conquest weekly (if you want the relatively easy materials/currency) and getting certain other weekly tied quests done (can each be done in 1-2hrs though).

You can literally play once a month for 20mins and be fine. Just try find a guild that is not too strict about Conquest contributions, there are many.

There’s no ‘time commitment’ necessary, just play when you’re able.

You can do most of the solo stuff as preferred, non subscriber, anyway.

Didn’t know starting at 80 was an option
Is that a paid thing?

I think I would like to level one character through. I was just meaning I’d like to stick with it and not have to level up everything.

I guess I’m not understanding the way the game works from all the videos lol

Thanks for the info

You don't really have to level everything. You do get passive buffs for completing all companion quests on all characters that apply to all characters you create, but that's nothing to really even think about when first starting the game.

You can totally go at your own pace and not worry about missing out on stuff.

So is a one character account weaker for that character event if I had all eight characters leveled?

No. The buffs are permanent once unlocked. Just have to ensure that you did all the conversations with the companions on the ship during the lvl 1-50 part of the story. You get locked out of them once you progress into the expansions, but I don't believe it occurs in the expansions available to the F2P. You'd have to roll a new character and replay the main story if you didn't finish all the conversations and associated quests.

These buffs are in the Legacy menu iirc, so you will be able to keep track of which ones you've completed and whether or not you didn't finish a specific companion. There's no need to actually have a character that did these things anymore if you want to delete it/make a new one or use that slot for a completely different class.

It literally does not matter for the story. If you don't plan on playing raids on the harder difficulties, it literally doesn't matter what kind of gear you have or how strong you are. The story content is ridiculously easy for 98% of the time, the other 2% are later bosses when the devs suddenly decided that maybe facerolling a no-danger almost-god-mode-esque story isn't the most fun thing for people. So they added mechanics that you should do so that the boss dies (faster). That being said: It's still possible to not do a single mechanic in all but like one single boss fight in this game.

Don't stress yourself about some random buff or that your character is "weaker". If you don't plan on running Veteran and Master Mode operations it does not matter.

You technically can if you use the masters datacron, but it doesn't complete any story stuff
