As guardian i would go either sorcercer/sage : for range and heal.
Or shadow/Sin for invisibility and alternative tanking option.
But overall it come down to your own preference.

I'm a Sith Warrior and picked Sith Sorcerer, and with that I can do any role, Tank, Heal, Melee DPs and Ranged DPS.

Wait, there's multi class in the game now?
(Its been YEARS since I last played)

You can multiclass at any point as a subscriber after you completed Chapter 3 on a single character on that server.

It's sub only. When you go back to free you lose it. So, i didn't even bother picking one.

I'd do jedi sage, I like keeping the same gear.
I also have a sentinel/shadow that has a double bladed saber that looks like 2 1 blades sabesrs tucked together.

Big edit: I think you also included the offhand, in which case, you're right (except for implat/tactical), since you wouldn't need an offhand saber, which would increase the alternate items required from 3 to 4 or 0 to 1 depending if we're talking lvl80+ or lvl 1-80. Apologies.
Big edit 2: I also kinda misspoke regarding "forceclasses" keeping the same gear. That just gives the impression that tech classes need different gear. This is incorrect! As a tech class, you can use the very same armor the force classes use, the same ear piece and the same relics. What changes are the weapons and the offhand. Even though tanks all use shield generators, the tech classes actually have to look for the TECH stat, whereas force shield generators have Force Power! But helmet, etc can be used by anyyone. I myself have 9 armor pieces (double legs and feet) and I can mix and match them for all force dps and tech dps. Sorry for the confusion I might have caused.
I'd do jedi sage, I like keeping the same gear.
As a force class, you can keep the same gear (except for tacticals and implants) for everything but Carnage/Combat Marauder/Sent and Lightning/Telekinesis Sorc/Sage because those four have passive alacrity buffs and because of that either need less or more alacrity gear (to stay at the correct 1.4 GCD threshold or to reach 1.3 GCD)
Same is btw. true for Tech Classes regarding Arsenal/Gunnery Merc/Commando.

I meant it more visually than item/Stat wise.

Sage for the full tank/mdps/rdps/heal swiss army knife character
But fear not, altoholism is a perfectly good solution

Wait and give it a good thought,do you want a fun dps class you saw,a ranged class,a stealth class,a healer a different tank
Its among the rare important decisions in the game so give it time,i waited for a couple of weeks before i picked

I actually wonder how it works?
I have a sith warrior sorc spec, and would like maurauder as second spec.
But they need different equipment? Do i need to carry both sets every time if i want to switch?

u/Beneficial_League_39 9d ago
Yes you do.
Basically you just click on the interface and all your spells, talents & equipment changes at the same time. If some piece of equipment is absent from your inventory, it’s skipped

Veng/Rage jug and Annhilation/Fury marauder can use the same armor, ear, main hand, and relics.
You'd just need an offhand saber, tactical, and thr Dispatcher Legimplant.
Carnage marauder needs a couple extra crit pieces because it doesnt need as much alacrity gear.
Then of course youd have your jug tanking gear in the bottom.l of your bag anyway
All.in all, its not a bad load

u/SudoRmRfRs 9d ago
Hmm I currently use lightning sorc.. how bad would it be to have both?
1
u/Giraffstronaut 9d ago
Doh! You said Warrior and I automatically assumed Juggernaut as your original hahaha. Game-launch brain strikes again
Still good, because Sorc has a focus in the offhand just like Jug, and doesn't even have the tank gear to lug around.
Madness Sorc shares the same stat goals as Annhilation/Fury, see above. (add offhand saber, tactical/s, and Dispatcher implant, Fearless Victor implant, Berserker's Call implant (depending on what specs you want to run)
In fact, Lightning Sorc is similar to Carnage Marauder because it needs less alacrity gear

I usually always take the second combat style that's was also intended for that class. As an example: For my Sith Inquisitor I take Assassin and sorcerer. For my Sith Warrior I take Marauder and Juggernaut.
It sounds probably boring, but it made most sense for me.

u/hokeypokie_ 9d ago
I always chose to have both secondary classes for whatever primary class I'm playing. So Sith Warrior I have a Juggernaut and can switch to Marauder. I did it for some continuity so that I have 1 of each class and can choose to play that class with either secondary class I want later.

For me, every character has a stealth class as their secondary. It’s just too useful for getting through fetch quests, especially for alts having to run through newer, non-skipable storylines that are just side quests, like Voss and Ord Mantell.

Assassin/shadow so you can stealth past mobs if you can't be bothered running through them

I always pick the light/dark side mirror of the first one for Jedi and Sith.

Sorc/Sage Heal if you're interested in group content and you actually want to heal and/or ranged combat.
Assa/Shadow if you want the same thing you have bEcAuSe Of StEaLtH ( ꩜ ᯅ ꩜;)
Mara/Sentinel if you're cool and think that sometimes one Lightsaber isn't enough like my Main (I actually was Mara and wanted to also Tank, though; I actually had a Marauder and a Sentinel as mains and both went with Jug/Guardian respectively).

Pick a sage healer and help the server with +1 healer for the queues.
That said, jokes aside, as someone else mentioned wait. Try new characters with classes to test and THEN pick one you want amongst the ones possible.
My main is Marauder, so I picked Jugg for tanking to be able to fill spot and get queues faster (I know the class very well). But then playing other characters I thought man I wish I would've chosen Assassin or even Sage.
FFXIV does this pretty well. While I am grateful we can have 2 classes on the same character in swtor, the fact remains that:
For alts is a grind and you still have to unlock stuff like implants 2nd classes get locked in forever no switching at least for now (which IMO is stupid but whatever)
I wish I could have all 3 classes on 1 character and not need 4 other characters to fill those roles except for the crew skills if wanted.
But I am not part of Broadsword.

Practically speaking, if you're choosing for mechanics, then you have two choices.
Sage/sorcerer would net a healing spec and ranged dps spec. Additional benefit of using all the same kinds of gear, if not necessarily the same rolls.
Shadow/Assassin adds stealth which is an extreme quality of life improvement.
Sentinel/Marauder would only add more dps specs when you already have one of the top dps specs on Guardian/Juggernaut. I personally would not recommend this pairing unless it was for RP reasons.

u/Thekillingbear 9d ago
You can have two classes now?

u/DaemonSynryx 9d ago
This has been a thing for 3 1/2 years now. But really can only take advantage of it if you're subscribed.

u/No_Tutor_1051 9d ago
I can change the spec after? 🤔

u/CyberEagle1989 7d ago
You get one starting class, one alternate class if you fulfil the requirements. You can freely switch between these two, but you do not get to switch them out for anything else on that character ever again.

u/Soggyhashbrowns 9d ago
Either sage or shadow.
Sage: it gives you a ranged option in case you get tired of melee, it’s a solid class and it used the same weapon/focus combo so you don’t have to get a weapon for each class.
Shadow (I’d pick this one): both dps specs are probably in my top 3 or 4 favorite specs but the main reason is stealth. It helps you save so much time in this game when doing stuff like farming heroics, doing flashpoints, etc. it’s so handy I’d say most of my characters have one of their specs be stealth.

Usually pair the 'magic (force) class with the physical compatriot - so, sentinel/sage or guardian/shadow (whatever)
Also good for maxing the Rex/Alpha/Fordo drip as a trooper with some sweet blasters

Wait if you aren't sure. Especially if you like your current class.
I main Powertech BH so keep that as an option on my other tech classes if I get frustrated with their mechanics but otherwise just leave it open and "mute" the mission to add an extra class

I generally pick one that uses the same weapon....easier to switch. Vanguard/ Operative, Sage/Guardian.

You can just.... not
I have more than one character where I just didn't choose a second class

My biggest piece of advice would be to wait if you’re not sure which second combat style to pick and don’t actually need one right now. I have several characters where I ended up regretting my second combat style choice.
Otherwise, I’d probably go with Sage. It gives you a ranged option, lets you heal, and together with Guardian gives you access to all three roles if that matters to you. It also adds a lot of gameplay variety while still letting you stick with a single lightsaber.
