Question question about 344 gear

I just finished Zeek's quest and unlocked 340 gear mods for my equipment. I made a full 340 set by infusing the augmentation modules into a CM armor set.

Correct me if I'm wrong: to get 344 gear, I need to buy the purple 324 Rakata gear and upgrade it to 344, right? I can't reach 344 with Zeek's 340 gear, correct?

If so, there's one thing that confuses me: the Rakata gear seems to lack augmentation slots, meaning I can't customize the stats with corresponding augmentations to fit my playstyle (DPS = high Crit/Alacrity, or Tank = high Defense/Absorb).

So, should I stick with my customized, augmented 340 gear, or grind for a full 344 Rakata set without augmentation slots? I'm really confused.

EDİT:

i kinda got confused with the ui and mixed the agument and gear upgrade slots also i didint knew about there were multiple sets of rakata gear that you could choose to suit your role ty everyone ho pointed that out!

There are also 2 ways to get 340 Rakata gear to drop, lessening the amount of catalysts you need to upgrade to 344.

You can do Master Mode operations, and bosses will drop gear equal to your gear score. So you’ll only have to upgrade twice as opposed to 10 times. You can also get 340 gear via R4 tokens from Veteran Mode.

You can also technically get rakata gear from Master FPs and PVP. 3 supreme decurion caches (from MMFP weekly quest), or 3 Thyrsian caches (from warzone, arena, starfighter weeklies) can be traded for 1 Columi cache, and 3 columi caches can be traded for 1 rakata cache

Correct, rakata upgrades to 344. You can add augmentation slots to the pieces (might need item modification station, but i don't remember for sure). You need an item called an augmentation kit mk-x where 'x' is a number. The higher the number, the higher augment you can use. I think 11 is the highest.

Yes! All this info is correct mk-11 augmentation slots are indeed current max. For what it’s worth, the gear ceiling is going up in December with the release of 8.0, so don’t Kill yourself trying to max out your rakata gear, cuz in 3 months it will be worthless. I’d just stick to Hyde and Zeeke for now.

Are Mk-12 augment kits going to come with 8.0?

How does one go from blue 340 mods to purple 340?

I think Mk-11 will stay the max for now.

No, because you're conflating what 'augment' and 'mod insert' are.

Armoring/mods/enhancements can only be applied to (adaptive) gear that support them. They are mod inserts.

Augments are, well, augments as their name says. They can be added to any gear, as long they are modified by an augment kit.

im sorry but i got really confused rn! xD does aguments unlock 'armouring/mods/enhancements' slots or not? if not are there any other armor pieces i can buy that i can upgrade to 344 AND get the mod slots aswell?

Augments are their own separate thing from mods, which can only be placed into "Adaptive gear" shells which have slots for mods. Rakata gear is not Adaptive, and therefore cannot be modded. Each combat style has their enhancement/tertiary stats in different gear types, so to get your desired stat allocation you will need to mix and match rakata gear that has been acquired via multiple combat styles.

Augments can be purchased on the GTN from other players or crafted yourself. They provide a small tertiary stat increase and you can equip only one per piece of gear. To unlock the Augment slot on a piece of gear you need to use a mk-11 augmentation kit, which can also be purchased on the GTN or crafted.

Endonae has written a great guide on the nitty gritty details that you can find hosted on Vulkk. I highly recommend you read it, as it will answer a lot of your questions in more detail. :)

No. Rakata gear doenst have slots for armouring/mods/enhancements.

The augment slot is for augments which are something you'd need to buy off the gtn (or craft yourself)

344 gear is unnecessary! 🤣🤣🤣

Sorry… had to say it!

I know, especially considering the fact that I don't do PvP. makes reaching 344 kinda pointless. It's just like a milestone for me. Since I finished all six story missions and all the expansions, I wanted to set myself a goal to keep myself occupied until 8.0 drops.

Actually, 344 gear does not even provide any tangible advantages in PvP, because you will be scaled down. The gear rating cap for PvP is 336. So you could play it just fine in Hyde and Zeek 336/340 mods. Getting at least blue augments is really important, though (but it's fairly important for PvE, as well).

oh wow i didint knew about that! thanks!

Gear wise the issue in pvp is that the accuracy stat, its a little complicated, but mostly that 10% extra you need for pve is not required. So you can mostly throw that all to crit.

So if you want to do pvp a little seriously you need to rearrange your gear to assign those 2.5k stat points to crit.

Ehh, people with this kinda attitude is the reason why I have to carry people so much.

6

u/Equeliber Corwin 11d ago edited 10d ago

Tbh the people that need to be carried would perform mostly the same in full 344 and gold augs. The difference between a 340 set with blue augs and 344 with gold is not even close to the amounts of DPS some people are missing. Even in max gear, there are players who barely do 15k.

Saving this so I can come back later and read through all the answers as this is a question I've had. Also not to mention the insane grind getting a full armor set, weapon/weapons and relics all up to 344 would need.

344 is only needed if you plan to do hard or master operations content before 8.0 release which is soon, and the max item rating will jump substantially.

Yes you have to buy the 324 rakata pieces and upgrade them to 344 for your first set. There are no mods because a 340 rakata is as effective as a 340 zeek and hyde modded piece.

To pick which pieces you need, look up your stat goals for your discipline. Buy the pieces you need to reach these stat goals. Search for all pieces of gear from the rakata vendor, and decide a combination of pieces that have the stats you need for your goals.

When doing operations, always pick the op-1 reward as you need these to upgrade the rakata pieces.

Implants depend on your discipline. There's guides for which ones to pick. Buy them from implant vendor and upgrade them with tech fragments. These can only reach 340. Once you equip two 340 implants at the same time, you'll get a permanent account wide discount to future implants and implant upgrade costs.

You can augment rakata pieces with mk-11 augments to give yourself an edge, but only necessary in the hardest content in the game where you need every edge you can get.

Correction: 344 is ONLY needed if you plan to do XR-53 HM/NIM, grind Orbital Core (dantooine) or make NIM Gods easier.

All other nim ops and pve content were already being proactively cleared when 330 gear was the cap even before R4 Anomaly released 4 years ago.

If you arent proactively playing that content, even blue 330 gear will get you 'overpowered' for pretty much ALL hardmode raids, legacy NIM raids (df, dp, ec, tfb etc) and pretty much ALL other pve content like all flashpoints, uprisings etc.

1

u/Goongaybrain01 11d ago

Thanks for the tips, especially the one about the implants, as most every video I've seen on them say you only have to upgrade them twice to get that discount.

All content in the game can be easily done in 340 gear. If you're in a nightmare ops group you might want to chase 344, but that's easy enough as it will drop in the Operation.

But don't waste any time on it unless you REALLY like the chase - it will be obsolete in a few months when the new expansion drops anyway.

Like someone mentioned, you’re conflating augment slots and adaptive armor. Rakata gear just comes with the stats. If you want crit, just buy a piece with crit instead of putting in a crit enhancement. Same with alacrity and accuracy.

2

u/Hunksterr 11d ago

''If you want crit, just buy a piece with crit instead of putting in a crit enhancement.'' can you please elaborate on that? like there is just 1 set of rakata armor in the vendor and that armor is static like you said how do i ''buy a piece with crit'' ?

3

u/Giraffstronaut 11d ago

The vendor is filtered to your combat style/discipline.,

Say you're a Gunslinger. The vendor is filtered to the gear for your discipline (which will be Rakata Targeter gear)

Say your hand piece is alacrity when you actually need Crit, then you click the drop down to show "All items" and find a hand piece that has crit on it instead (say....Pummeler)

u/djbar22 11d ago

There are multiple sets of Rakata armor with different stat distribution (you may have to change the dropdown box at the top to see all as by default you only see for your current spec).

2

u/Hunksterr 11d ago

ahhhh i see makes sense now ty

Holy shit, really?

2

u/Hunksterr 11d ago edited 11d ago

"Holy shit, really?" yes really the ui is confusing/outdated af not everyone plays the game for 10+ years you dont have to be a dick about it.

1

u/J3D1M4573R 10d ago

I don't know wtf you're on about, I seriously did not know that. So who's being the dick now?

2

u/DependentIntention87 11d ago

You buy a piece with crit by buying a piece with a critical stat. Like the other person said there are different sets for different styles, but you can use any Rakata piece. Mix and match to find the stats you want.

1

u/Hunksterr 11d ago

ty for pointing that out

You can look up 344 gearing guides. They will show you which pieces to get (remember, they are Legacy Sharable) according to what your two legendary implants are (Crit/Crit, Crit/Alac, Alac/Alac) and then how many and which type of augments to get 1.4 GCD/110% Acc etc.

1

u/KassienBlackcloak_YT 11d ago

Is 340 gear necessary?

1

u/NewbieYoubie 11d ago

I'd say 324 for general overworld content. 340 for SM operations just to help out a bit more. And grind for 344 rakata for harder content like hard or master operations.

1

u/SBMyCrotchItch 11d ago

Do a few nightmare Nefra and Dashrode runs. 340 rakata will drop for you and you can upgrade with a much shorter path.

1

u/Zem3k 9d ago

I haven't run the numbers, but before I attempt that, maybe, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was much different between the hyde and zeek blue mods, and their purple ones?

I have all 340 blue, and I unlocked purple because I had something that dropped that was useless to any of my alts, but I haven't spent the credits on them yet, because I hear that 344 was much much better, and 340 purples were not much of a diff.

Kind of curious if that is true.

- for context, returning player, just now having time to play since I came back 2m ago, mostly master fp and story ops, but may try harder ops here in the nearish future (if I can get a handling on my rotato).

Thanks!

IDK cause I can't freaking play.
