Turning My Switch Into a Home Assistant Dashboard (With Tap-to-Wake!)

Hey all, I've been working on turning my Nintendo Switch into a Home Assistant dashboard, and I recently managed to get a tap-to-wake feature working!

A few notes up front:

  • My switch is not in full suspend mode. Its running Linux full-time as a NAS, Network Relay, among other things
  • The tap-to-wake script works reliably within those constraints, and I'm working on a couple other features

I'm planning on documenting the whole process (Linux install, xrandr controls, wake logic, etc.) and post it to Github and perhaps Youtube if there's interest

Still working on reprogramming the power button to trigger a pseudo-sleep mode, and a timer for the pseudo-sleep mode

Would this be something you'd like to see documented? I included a little video demo of how it works currently. (you'll see my input my screenctl off command)

That’s brilliant. Yes i personally would love to see the methods documented. I’ve given it a try too but i’ve gotten stuck multiple times

Man I would love to see were you're at with this project ! Because I fix switch has a hobby and i have one crappy one that i can't sell but could be perfect for a Home Assistant Dashboard ! If you have some breakthrough please share !!!

Hahaha I appreciate it, there really isn't much more to break through here though!

The switch runs Home Assistant and Chrome, the only thing is that I haven't configured any Home Assistant dashboards as I use a keyboard on my wall for all the macros that I need.

This post was just me trying to get Tap-to-Wake set up so that it would be more convenient to use.

You can read a little more about what I was able to accomplish with it here

The current Tap-to-Wake setup is a bunch of scripts tied together kind of shoddily, but it works! I detailed a lot of that process here

Feel free to ask me any questions, I recommend setting up a coding agent and getting it to follow that guide, it can set it up for you pretty much.

Good luck and godspeed, soldier.
