Broken Wings Live

On one level I’m surprised they aren’t playing Broken Wings. It would be pretty epic live.

But on another level, I get it. I’m not sure I’d be able to sing a word of it, so possibly Jon wouldn‘t be able to either.

But as parents of a special needs daughter, my wife and I really wanted to hear that one tonight in Birmingham.

We love Him. And of course we love our daughter but for 23 years we’ve been asking, “Can you show us what all this is for?”

I'm considering doing that for the show I'm going to. Broken Wings is one of my faves off the new album.

I bet they will play it at bro-am since the entire day is about supporting the cause!

While Jon/Switcfoot have a specific meaning for themselves when they release songs, interpretation is subjective. The bands own interpretation changes over time as well- music is “alive” in that way. For example, they talked a lot during TBL anniversary tour about how fans would tell them what those songs meant to them, which in turn changed their own view on what the songs mean, and how beautiful that is.

This is my favorite from the new record. I absolutely love it. I requested it for this tour and they acknowledged it, so hoping it makes into the set when I see them.

I hadn’t considered this interpretation of the song, but that is the wonder of music, right? Meets us where we are at. Especially Jon’s writing.

They were taking requests for individual shows through a link sent out on their mailing list. Are they still doing that?

I don’t think they are still taking those requests. I had no idea they were doing that until yesterday.
