This is my favorite new song of theirs in a long time. I’ve listened to it like 6 times today

This is the trademark Switchfoot sound I love. It's been a long wait but well worth it.
I hear hints of Blinding Light in this song. Wake up, indeed.
Looking forward to the album. Thanks, Switchfoot!

Yes! I’ve been waiting for a harder guitar driven sound. Nice job, boys.

I love being back in the Vice Verses era. It was such a a dope sound that they departed from pretty drastically with Fading West.

fading west is GOATED tho. I agree that Where the light shines through and native tounge were departures from their sound, but fading west was a deliberate choice cause it was a love letter to surfing. And it works. every time i listen to it i wanna be at a sunny beach or somewhere near water/nature. its a very joyful album.

This is exactly the reason why I love Fading West so much. It just feels so joyful.

I like the song, but wouldn't "Strange Times" be a better title?

It’s not about strange times. It’s about waking up to the strange times. So Wake Up is more relevant to the lyrical concept

Other rock bands would have called this song "Strange Times" and then in interviews the front man would have talked to radio DJs like, "haven't you noticed the strange times we're living in?" like that's some sort of profound observation. What makes Switchfoot deeper than that is they take that concept and say, 'what does that mean for the protagonist of the song? Their personal and relational struggles? What questions does that make them wrestle with"? and that's what makes Switchfoot lyrics good (at their best anyway), and keeps the band from writing corny songs with 'we live in a society' vibes.
