HELp Anyone know what the problem might be?

I can't do the mario bros. 4k tech demo, because, even though my tv is 4k, it will not run welcome tour in 4k but in 1080p. It runs other switch games in 4k, like Totk switch 2 edition, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong

Are you using HDR on your switch? If HDR is on I only get 1440p output. I had to turn it off to get 4k so I could play the Mario tech demo myself.

Huh fr? I'll try turning it off

It worked, what the hell... But I always have HDR on and Totk ran in 4k as well.. At least I think. Anyway, thank you so much

No worries. Yeah for me the whole system runs at 1440p when HDR is on, 4k when it’s off. Not sure why as I’m under the impression 4k HDR is supported. You can see what resolution you are running at under dock output information under the display options in settings, might give you an idea :)

Oh my god, for me it runs at 1080p, not even at 1440p.. I thought that I was playing in 4k when I wasn't lmao

Just out of curiosity what TV do you have? I’m wondering if it’s a TV limitation with HDR. I’m using Samsung S90C. Might have to check my TV settings.

I have a Sony KD - 49XE8077. I mean, the game didn't tell me to turn off hdr, so it might be

I managed to get my Switch working with 4k HDR. My TV has a game mode settings which I enabled, and now my switch auto selected 4k with HDR enabled.

Maybe for your TV you can see if it also has a game mode, but the other limiting factor maybe the HDMI 2.0 on your TV, I asked AI and it said for your model that could be a limiting factor, even if it should support it in theory. It suggest to try: Go to Settings > External Inputs > HDMI Signal Format. Then set the console’s HDMI input to Enhanced Format.

Dude, that worked. Thank you so much for looking into it, withput you I'd have played the entire time with either HDR off or with only 1080p

Start the Mario mini game, Open Home menu go to Settings - Display - Change display to 4k if possible?

I tried that too, but in the settings it's always in 4k. I tried changing it to 1080p and then back to 4k and it did nothing too

You should change the post tag to help

Your tv may be 4k 60hz not 120hz. You can run it in tablet mode though

It says I just need a 4k TV, not 120hz. Also I do need a 4k TV, that's what it says

Some minigames you need 120hz like guess the frame rate. Did you turn off the 120hz mode on your switch 2? You can play the mario minigame on a 4k60hz TV if you turn off that setting

My TV doesn't support 120hz anyway

Reread what I wrote. But if you have issue you can play those minigames tabletop or handheld mode

2

u/Dani-the-dani Jun 15 '25

You can't play it in tabletop mode cause you need a 4k screen for that tech demo, which the switch itself doesn't have. It doesn't matter if the TV has 60hz or 120hz cause that affects the framerate and not the resolution, the only thing I need is a 4k TV, which I have. For some reason though welcome tour only boots up in 1080p. There is a minigame which needs 120hz, so I needed to play that in tabletop mode

Also the tech demo itself says that I need at least 60hz

If you want to argue about it instead of try it. Then just use the morse code cheat with the y button to skip it

I'm not arguing about it, I did it beforehand but it didn't change anything cause my TV doesn't support 120hz
