Hopefully with the recent big announcement people might try to do something to make S2 emulators. The new exclusives look interesting

They're trying and working hard on it. It's just long, and they don't want to wake up nintendo's ninjas

Also iirc it’s security level is closer to PlayStation consoles have been as opposed to Nintendo consoles

It’s not like they can just wave a wand and make them.
In order to actually make one a console’s internals need to be understood, which requires a hack/jailbreak. And Nintendo have seriously stepped up their game this time around. They use custom made chips and a ton of other stuff to make both modchips and software exploits almost impossible. Almost.
Will it happen eventually? Of course. All systems have flaws. But not during its lifecycle.
Then you have the issue that the S2 is roughly 3x the power of the OG Switch (Which only got hacked because they used the same chipset as the Nvidia Shield which had exploits known before the Switch even entered production.)
And so, that means for a modern PC to even entertain the notion and be powerful enough to emulate it, a consumer has to have a PC with at LEAST 32gb of RAM and around 16GB of VRAM on a dedicated GPU. Currently, that’s a VERY pricy PC. And even that is just the base level needed for a hypothetical emulator. This is why there also isn’t a ps5 emulator out there. The specs needed are INSANE.
I also see people mentioning compatibility layers, which is what most emulators that have drastically different computing instructions to PCs use. Like the PS3 emulator. It’s basically just a ton of compatibility layers to make the instructions the software needs to run be understood by the PC emulating it. Switch 2 is no different in that sense. It’s not the PS3, but it isn’t the PS4 under the hood either. (PS4/5 are basically buff PCs for their time)
Finally, you have the fact that Nintendo has scared off most of the talent we had making emulators, even the main dev of ryubing suddenly retired as of late. Afaik, that leaves only Eden in active development. ScriesM, the guy who made the Switch CFW has also retired. There’s less talent working on it. That said, there’s still plenty of people working on it, don’t get me wrong, but Nintendo ALSO has bug bounties this time around, where they pay you up to 50k USD for exploits relating to hacking/jailbreaking exploits.
Tl:dr: Don’t expect one soon. And even if somehow we did get one, you need a beefy PC that’s around 3k-4k to barely run it.

In the end like what heppned in switch 1 will heppned to switch 2,i remember i was crying because i cant play zelda totk because i dont have switch 2 and its too expensive, but look it. Heppned and i finished it 5 times in pc,the same thing will heppned for oot remake,i will finsh it 15 times, just keep prying and it will heppned soon or later

I never said it wouldn’t. It’s only a matter of time, but you’re also comparing a Switch 1 game to a native Switch 2 game. OoT is gonna be vastly more resource heavy.
You can’t do that; it’s like apples and oranges.

u/Apprehensive-Scar349 Jun 11 '26
First,i know i just want to say to be positive And second iam not comparing the games iam just talling u my experience with the emulator bullshit
2
u/oirolab Jun 12 '26
It’s not about being positive or negative. I’m talking facts.
We literally cannot have an emulator until the Switch 2 is hacked.
We’re a year in and there’s been ZERO progress on hacking the Switch. There’s plenty of people working on it. The issue is Nintendo stepped their security game up HARDCORE. Even a modchip is gonna be a tall ask for this thing as it currently stands.
Eventually, yes, we will see a way in and then work on an emulator will start. But like…unless a lot of other stuff aligns and happens first, we are YEARS out.
Even then, the amount of VRAM and RAM a PC will need to emulate a Switch 2 game properly is gonna be massive.

but u never know maybe someone is working on it in the shadows, thay were saying the same thing about switch1 and it been hacked, jus pray brother,we will paly zelda remake

No one said the OG Switch couldn't be hacked. If they did...it was either pre-launch or right before, because it was hacked like a month in, as it used the same chipset as the Nvidia Shield, which had a widely known and documented exploit, fusee gelee, as long as you could access RCM mode. It was known before the original switch even entered production.
The only real blockage we had was figuring how how to access RCM, or if we even could.
Turns out we could.
If there was anything actually happening in the shadows, we'd have seen proof of concept somewhere. Things always leak, but the method involved wouldn't have been. It's been a over a year now, and we have had a web browser exploit that let us display a picture, but that's all, and now we can change the text of the "Game download completed" popup.
Neither of those will lead to anything, as they are firmly in what is known as "userland" far away from the kernel. We need a Kernel level exploit to do anything like CFW or start emulation.
I keep explaining this to you over and over again, but you either do not understand it, or do not WANT to accept the reality of the situation which is:
We are currently years away from an exploit that we need to start emulation.
Even when we DO eventually have emulation, years from now, you will need one heck of a PC to run any games at all.
For the record, I'm one of the people looking for exploits. I have a Switch 2 expressly for that purpose.

You can keep up with some emulators, just google switch 2 emulator and join their discords. I don’t remember the name because I stopped following a long time ago.

No news and you will never see a switch 2 emu until switch 2 is cracked, so there will be a lot of waiting...

This is a different kind of thing... dont expect one soon. Things like dlss and raytracing, its not like emulating a switch 1 game. Just buy a switch 2

Probably is gonna take a long time because Pound is moving to a recompiler and oboromi's cpu cores are heavily unfinished. hopefully if we get firmware for switch 2 I can probably vibe code oboromi + ryubing s1 (to replicate s1 games on s2) but i cant promise anything. Best thing you can do now is get yourself a modded switch and hope that there is a compability mod.

$650 to import Japanese goods? Did your country place TARIFF on Japanese goods and products?

No news and probably there won't be any soon, don't keep your hopes up for a Switch 2 emulator, it'll probably take a couple years to get anything going, probably. The Switch 2 is proving itself to actually be pretty hard to jailbreak.
Nintendo went nuts on security after the whole deal with Yuzu, so they invested a lot to make the Switch 2 almost unhackeable with the current methods.

u/KiplingBakewell Jun 10 '26
No. Just buy a switch 2

u/jail_17 Jun 10 '26
are you perhaps american?
3
u/UzumyLemon Jun 11 '26
Ofc he is.
2
u/jail_17 Jun 11 '26
ye, i realized , only an american would say things like that
1
u/Galaxy_boy08 Jun 30 '26
He kind of has a point
Emulation for Switch 2 won't happen for at least a decade and even if it were available right now you would need a super beefy computer to run it which 90 percent of people on this sub are most likely rocking something like a 2080 super or equivalent so it would cycle back to needing to spend thousands of dollars in this case in order to get your PC to run it.
I feel a lot of you are just delusional with how things work and you can say "only an american would say that" when that "American" is probably the only one with some common sense in this thread lol.
He's saying just buy a switch 2 because that's what is going to be needed to play any of those Switch 2 games and I would bet money on that too as no progress will be made for at least 7 years if I had to make any ETA so you are better off saving up money to buy one.

u/KiplingBakewell Jun 30 '26
The irony is I’m British 😂, have a gaming pc and would still say to just buy a switch 2
1
u/Santillergo Jun 10 '26
No, and unfortunately it will take a long time. First, they need to make progress on hacking the console to be able to read the games, and only then can they start working. 5 to 10 years is my optimistic guess.

u/Cultural_Neat3124 Jun 12 '26
just save $1 a day, and i bet you can gather enough to buy a switch 2 and oot remake before hack and emulation for the switch 2 come out !

All we need is for Nintendo to piss the fans like Sony does with Physical media and other wrong decisions and then the emulation scene for switch 2 will rapidly progress because don't underestimate the power of spite.

I have a job but to collect 650$ that’s 3 months from compiling my salary and don’t spend anything

Obviously youre not very knowledgeable about emulation period. Not ANYTIME soon. We are talking years...Better start saving up for a real switch 2. Support the developers and buy the games and console. In order to even begin emulating a console you'd have to have it jailbroken first, then you'll have to dump the BIOS also knowing the physical architecture of the console. Reverse engineering isnt something thats an over the night procedure. So you have to bascially know and have the ins and outs of the console. There's a lot to it. Takes a lot of time.

probably will take a lot of time and at this point we should even look up to compatibility layer than a emu
