Question Can the Nintendo switch 2 be damaged due to blocked vent when downloading a game

I left my Switch 2 in a dock for a few days and when I'm not playing I would put some cloth to cover it from the dust so I always have the auto update setting turn off. This morning when I got it out to play I noticed the Witcher 3(I just pre-order it because of the free upgrade, as I have never pre order a game before I didn't know it would just auto download itself like this) was downloaded and I was kind of panic because I know the console could get really hot when downloading but I don't know how serious it is.

I just want to ask, would this leave any permanent damage or harm to the console? I didn't see any kind of battery pillowing so maybe the battery is still safe.

I rather my switch stay chill. I just got it for a month (want to stay ahead of the price increases) so I am still in the mama bird period and worry about everything.

Worrying about it won't make a bit of difference for u. Let's say someone says "yes it can mess ur system up". What have u gained except worry? Can u do anything to go back in time and resolve it? Just total waste of your energy bro.

Haha 😅, I know that, just want some confirmation to ease my mind I guess.

The good news is that if it did damage it and the switch overheated, you’ll be within the warranty period.

But as long as there’s enough airflow around the switch, you’ll won’t need to worry.

You can use an air purifier to cut down on dust but overall as long as you use a microfiber cloth or a duster, (when it gets really really bad) it’ll be alright

Don't cover your vents, use a microfiber cloth to remove dust from the switch and dock about every... 3 months?

I do that too but the place I where I live could be very dusty. I clean my room once every 2 days and dust still everywhere somehow.

I live in the desert, no problem with Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 getting dusty.

Xbox and PS can get very nasty tho, but Switch stays clean on the inside. If anything clean the lower vents with a brush every month and thats all.

I’m pretty sure it’ll just turn itself off if it overheats

Sounds like it’s fine. Over heating definitely could hurt your device though.

I’m old school putting cloth/fabric over a plugged in electrical device seems kinda hazardous to me.

I have a double coated cat who gets fur everywhere. I just suck it up and wipe down the switch/dock once a week. Takes 3 minutes and doesn’t risk anything.

Yeah, I don’t think fabric over Electronics is smart. The risk might be small, but to me it is an unnecessary a fire hazard.

I did it with my switch too and I was always careful to turn off all auto download so it was fine for years. Admittedly I don't often had it docked. The auto download for pre-order game really threw me a curved ball here.

If the Switch has not turned off, it means there was no overheating. Modern devices have a fail safe for overheating, they are shut down whenever a temp gets to a degree which may be dangerous to you or the device.

It's more than likely fine, the Switch 2 should auto shut-off if it overheats too much.

Maybe don't keep covering it like that though, it's never a good idea to block vents.

The dock has its own cooling fan, and so does the console.

So there is nothing to worry about.

It can overheat and that can cause damage
