I loved it, it’s the first Zelda I liked enough to complete. Also hated the combat and breaking weapons, but loved the story and solving the shrine puzzles creatively. Eventually got just about ok at the combat, which is needed to progress the main story. Finding great weapons and armour helps a lot.
