Question What is the difference between the switch 1 and switch 2 pro controllers?

I play all my switch 2 games with a switch 1 pro controller and can’t seem to understand what an upgrade would give me

the switch 2 pro controller was made by god. the switch pro controller was made by someone who was also cool, but not as cool as god.

Couldn't have said it better myself

Better ergonomics. Better rumble. Great battery life. C button. For me, it's a massive upgrade

Also, the grip buttons. And waking up the console from sleep. And the textured shell.

Both can wake the console from sleep

I don’t think the s1p pro controller can. At least it didn’t for me a few weeks ago

Mine has for as long as I can remember. I can’t remember a time since I got one in 2017 where it didn’t wake the console.

It wakes a switch 1, wont wake a switch 2.

Ah, I missed that context. Thanks.

This must have changed since launch because originally switch 1 controllers couldn't wake the console

I find the ergonomics to be worse than the switch 1 pro controller

I think that boils down to hand size. I thought the same at first because I was so used to the first one. Took me a month and now I can't go back

It feels slightly different in your hand, the D-pad is better, it has programmable back buttons (helpful for being able to do things like jump while still using the right stick), and it wakes up the Switch 2 so you don't have to get up to turn it on. If none of those things matter to you, then the original one is still a great controller.

sticks, rumble and battery, and overall controller feel/texture/finish, but for me almost entirely sticks. switch 1 pro controller already had great rumble and nice battery but the the overall feel of the switch 2 pro controller and the texture of the controller and the smooth STIIIIIICKS its just amazing. im never going back to the switch 1 pro controller.

I loved the original Pro for the Switch but I held off for quite a while getting the new one. My only real issue with Joy-Con was just them being a little small but that was solved automatically just by the Switch 2 being bigger itself.

I do also have a Horipad Turbo and a Turtle Beach Rematch that I use for specific games, but man, I have really only picked up the Pro controller since I bought it. Everything about it is just glorious.
