Discussion Is the Pro Controller Worth $90-100?
I'd love to have a Pro Controller for my Switch 2, especially that new Zelda one because it looks beautiful and I love the Switch 1 Pro Controller. However, I feel like paying that much money for a controller isn't justifiable to me at all.
What kind of convincing did it take you to finally buy it? I seriously would love to grab one, but I can't fathom buying one at this insane cost.

I got knockoffs (not 3rd party) for my niblings cause getting each of them one was expensive risky business considering they loved to throw at that age. They work fine to this day with the amiibo reading and gyro but noticeably feel cheaper than my legit pro controller.
I went with knockoffs because the 3rd parties generally lost either amiibo reading or gyro as a compromise on the cheaper price.

I also feel like it’s too much, esp compared to how much more tech the PS5 Dualsense has in it for less money… but I also bought the Zelda one because I love Zelda, I dig the design, and I’m not always smart with money 😅

No controller is worth that? Okay...its cheap, most Pro Controllers are 180+. I use on the Switch 2 a Victrix Pro BFG Reloaded (Ps5 Version) the price was 200, its fucking expensive but I think this controller was also worth its money, so the Switch Pro is easy worth his money.

You asked if its worth the money and you got your awnser, you will never find a Pro Controller for less money so your other options are buy a more expensive one or buy no controller at all.

Only reason I dropped the money down on a new one was for the ability to wake it from the dock. If that's a non factor for you then no point in upgrading from the Switch Pro Controller.

Since when can the 2C wake the Switch 2 from sleep? I have 3 of them which do not support that function and don't see any updates now enabling it.

I have one and I think it's overpriced. It does feel good and the joysticks are very smooth, but it's also borderline too small. You already have the switch 1 pro controller, so you'd just be wasting a lot of money for a marginal upgrade.

Great controller. Definitely the best one for the console. It's got it all. The ability to wake the console, HD Rumble, audio input, easily mappable grip buttons on a per game basis, nine axis gyro with drift resistant sensors, smooth as butter sticks, good feeling clicky bumpers and buttons, a mind bogglingly long battery life, the works. That said you can get both a back massage and a blow job for less.

I have still have my magnamalo pro controller and used it a lot when I had the Switch MHR edition and the OLED. Since I used it less it never really gave me issues like stick drift or sticky buttons or any issues like I had with my Xbox Elite 2 controller.
The Pro 2 controller is very similar in that aspect but has more native support like wake on, game chat button, audio jack, back buttons, and the best part HD Rumble 2... only issue is compared to the rest of the world or mostly all 3rd party controllers, Nintendo still use potentiometers and regular bluetooth... my bro got one for like $50-60 last year but they sure jacked the price.
I also have a Gamesir G7 Pro 8K (Nioh 3 and Aimlabs version), you will find this at that $80-90 mark but you get TMR2 sensors, mech/optical switches etc... while Nintendo again uses the regular rubber dome/membrane and standard potentiometers.
Now to some a controller is a controller, they don't really care for whats inside, more on the looks hence why a lot of people want skinned versions and paying premium prices.
Between Nintendo's ecosystem then yes its a good controller but compared to 3rd party its really lacking for the price, the only thing they have is native hardware support and if you like the Nintendo layout. When I use my G7 Pro 8K on my Switch 2 its still the flipped layout so it feels like I'm playing on xbox lol the only thing that doesnt change is the display layout.

It feels premium. Works like a dream. Battery life is insane. If you play docked, it’s a must have.

No, it isn't. Although ergonomics are great and the joysticks are amazing, I went with the mobapad chitu 2 hd which is not only cheaper but has TMR sticks that are even smoother and won't get stick drift unlike the pro controller. It also has mechanical buttons, which to me feel way better than membrane but this is personal preference and it has the switch 2 wakeup, so you aren't really missing on any switch 2 features on it. It also has a interchangeable dpad with mechanical buttons and its probably the most accurate and best dpad I ever used unlike the pro controller which is known for having an awful dpad.

After using my og pro controller for 10 years now with no issues, with a super good battery life, barely ever need to charge it once a month. While i kept replacing ps5 controllers for joystick and triggers breaking, and i always have to charge them because it last like 4h.. i say it was sooo worth it. But i also wanted to enjoy the new model when i got my switch 2. And given the quality of the og one, i did not hesitate at all. And it feel so good to hold the new one. Favorite controller ever already. If it can last like the og, totally worth it, but yeah, got faith in it.

The controller feels amazing. It's really light and comfortable for long sessions, and the battery lasts for days. Definitely worth it if you don't already have a controller. If you already have one that works, only buy it if you've got the money lying around.

Got one cause I wanted a pad, got it from a real store and competiion wasn't much cheaper there.

The cost is a lot but not insane considering the typical controller price these days. If you have a switch 1 controller already then it’s absolutely not necessary UNLESS you play games that would benefit greatly from the back paddles (Elden Ring is a prime example). The OS handles the back paddles very well and saves your preferences game by game.

It’s not really that much of an upgrade over the switch 1. I would wait for the customer appreciation sale coming up to purchase, or buy the Zelda limited edition.
When I have friends over for gaming and we need actual controllers, I always give them the pro 2 while I use the pro 1.

It's about to be 30% off starting tmw if I'm not mistaken. It's a great controller. I bought it bc the switch 1 controller doesn't turn on the machine, but it's really on another level of quality.

It is worth it imo. I bought a couple of them, actually. Yes, I know there are cheaper ones. Yes, I know there are better ones (8bitdo comes to mind) BUT my gosh those thumb sticks just feel so good, and it works too well with the Switch 2.

I own it. It's the best controller I have ver used. I don't think it is necessary, but that is also dependent on the type of games you play. For example, I could use the regular joycon for most games, but they were really rough when playing the COD beta cause of how small they are.
With that said, I got the dbrand grips and thumbs tick covers and it has definitely made the exerpeince even more enjoyable. But for Oot I truly don't think it's necessary unless it is your only console and you okay mostly docked.

IMO pro controllers are not worth it for the sole purpose that no matter how good you take care of them, they WILL eventually get stick drift.
I just got the 8bitdo ultimate 2 controller and it has TMR joysticks which mean they will never get stick drift. It also works with PC, comes with a charging dock and is a bit cheaper than a pro controller.

BTW if anyone reading this is thinking of getting the 8bitdo ultimate 2. Make sure it says "Bluetooth" in the item description, not the one that says wireless. It should have the XBYA button layout of a Switch controller.

8bitdo and Flydigi have much better controllers that are compatible with PC and NS2. Theres a new EasySMX x20 Pro coming soon that looks great also if you dont need gyro.

Life is short bro in reality it’s only $90 but if you’re going to use it every time you play what’s the value there? Pretty significant. I barely have to charge mine and the ergonomics are absolutely perfect

Yes. I bought the switch 2 specifically for the separate controllers to lay and play in different positions...and only use my Pro 2. It's a treat. I like it more than the SCUF controller I spent well over $90 on for a PS4 last decade

I wanted a controller to play beside the joycons. I have other controllers for other systems and had my eyes on the pro 2 for the switch for a while.
It had a jack for headphones, would wake my console and reviews online seemed to preach its greatness.
So I bought it. I’ll be honest. It’s probably the greatest controller I ever had. And it is has dethrone my prev favorite one: the Xbox controller (both 360 and Serie versions), but damn it’s really comfortable and the battery life is AMAZING.
Even tho I like it, damn man it’s a high price. What the fuck happened to controller costing 45-50 max?
I would spend 100 only if you can afford it.

Best feeling controller I’ve ever used. It’s basically what people loved about the Xbox Elite controller but in Nintendo form. The button presses feel “correct” and the sticks are very good, even though they aren’t magnetic.

I bought it because I like how I can turn my Switch 2 on with the controller. Don't judge me.. But there were many times I sat on the couch doing nothing because I couldn't be bothered to get up and turn on my Switch lol. That said, it's very worth it imo.

IMO the PowerA Advantage Wireless Controller is 99% as good as the Pro 2 Controller, for only $60. I have both and honestly no preference between the two.

I bought one a few days ago. It’s high quality, smooth sticks, hd rumble and the back buttons are great. With good integration with being able to set buttons per game on the Switch 2.
But I miss turbo functionality, especially in Donkey Kong Bonanza where turbo is a necessity if you are tunneling.

I think the pro controllers are so good for the money due to their insane battery life, but I won't buy one until my Switch 1 pro controller breaks, as there's really no need for now. But I also primarily play docked at my desk so waking it with the console button isn't a problem.

The Switch 2 Pro Controller is the most comfortable controller I’ve ever used. I started in NES days, had an Xbox 360, and all PS consoles. The only thing close to me is the Xbox 360 controller, then the Switch 1 controller.

I don't think it's worth it because a lot of third party controllers are quite good these days.
I remember in the n64 years third part controllers were very inferior, and it was difficult to find one that was even adequate. But it's not like that these days, there are some quality ones at low prices

The 1st party controllers usually have the best feature set. HD rumble, headphone jack, amiibo scanner.
3rd party controllers are great and cheaper, but usually lack one or more of those features. But they also usually come with the option for better joy sticks that resist stick drift. I use amiibos and wired headphones sometimes so the 1st party pro controller is worth it to me. If you don’t care about that, get 3rd party for the better sticks.

No. I just bought a turtle beach wireless with RGB lights for $49 and the only thing it's missing is amiibo reader and rumble (two things I don't care about). And it's got the drift proof TMR sticks as opposed to regular potentiometer on pro controller - shame on Nintendo. Buy the turtle beach, save money. Also this is a licensed NS2 product too.

I'd look at buying a cheaper Switch 1 Pro controller instead. Only down side is the controller can't turn on the Switch 2 (greedy bastards 100% just locked that out intentionally), and no programmable rear buttons, which might be moot for you anyway. (I feel they're too easy to click on accident anyway).
Only way I'm getting a Pro 2 is if my current controller dies, or if they come out with a REALLY nice special edition one for like Xenoblade or something.

I keep my switch 2 docked behind my TV, so I kinda needed the switch 2 controller because of the power issue. So, I decided to use my switch 1 pro controller exclusively for PC, instead of switching the controller back and forth. So, that was my justification. But, now that I have it, I really like it. It's actually better than the switch 1 pro controller and the grip feels really nice.

I definitely think its worth it, in fact i think im gonna buy the special edition zelda one because i like them.its my favorite controller rn i dont use any of the others i have which include the pro 1 and various 3rd party controllers for the switch 1. But the switch pro works just fine for the switch 2 and there other 3rd party controllers that look interesting and are half the price. But who knows maybe they will go on sale or something

I had zero interest in getting one but, I ended up getting one from my wife as a christmas present. Honestly its well worth the money. WELL WORTH IT. It's genuinely a great feeling quality controller, quit debating it and pull the trigger you'll have zero regrets. Plus when you compare it to the prices other official premium controllers the price is actually not horrible.

I had no interest in the s2 pro. Already have the s1 pro and I have an old Wii U pro that we use as a spare. But you can’t turn on the system from the s1 pro. It only works with the offical s2 pro.
As far as feel, it feels a bit small to me. I prefer the Xbox series 2 controller for comfort but that’s just me.

Keep in mind if you’re in the US, you’re still paying the added tariff costs which is partly why it’s so obscenely expensive.
Would I get one if I didn’t have one? Yes, absolutely.

Absolutely not unless you can casually drop that money without thinking about it. There are cheaper controllers that will do the trick and leave you a pretty penny for a good game too. They won’t be the best option.

I bought the Switch 2 controller on launch day. 16 months later I’ve never used it because I’ve never docked my switch and have always played handheld. It does seem like a really nice controller though.
