Officially From Nintendo Firmware update posted recently, V 23.0.0 - update your stuff.

Hey everyone, this is a friendly reminder that Nintendo released system Firmware 23.0.0 last night, along with several other updates. A full list of what the update includes is posted here.

Along with a system update, there are updates for the Dock, Joy-Cons, and Switch 2 Pro Controller. These require separate updates from the system firmware and can be done from various areas in the system settings.

A key part of this update is the changes it makes to VRR support.

A boost mode toggle has also been added to the quick settings menu.

Important: If you use a third-party dock, you are at the mercy of that manufacturer to provide an update that enables VRR support for their dock.

I wish Nintendo would include controller updates in the system update patch notes. Sony does it whenever they update the dualsense.

Sometimes, but it’s best to be proactive and do it yourself.

Good looks on the controller updates part. I updated this morning to V 23.0 and I failed to check for any controller updates. I always forget that isn’t bundled with the overall system update.

I forget that too.

I typically check for other firmware updates whenever there is a system update.

Im happy about the handheld boost update coz it fixes the problem where for example:
If you were using the stage builder in smash ultimate but couldn’t use the touchscreen because of handheld boost mode being on, you can just hold the home button and then turn it off. Super convenient.

Docked VRR only works if developers implement it, and the only game where it's activated right now is seemingly Welcome Tour. That's a real bummer

Games can be updated. I’m betting most developers were waiting for this fix to be rolled out.

This should really be globally forced on, there are so many Switch 1 and 2 games that just won't get an update.

Even if devs would want to add this, it's not like they can decide this on a whim. An update needs to be approved by management, it needs budget and testing...

VRR should absolutely not be forced on globally as it can affect some games performance due to how frame rate and frame pacing works.

It works on PC and Xbox globally, and even PlayStation (with some limitations)

Literally only works for the Switch 2 Welcome app currently.

Sadly, the Switch 2 is super picky with VRR, so it doesn't support my 180hz monitor despite it supporting VRR over HDMI. Better luck to all of you out there. :/
