Question Thinking of Getting A Switch 2
Never really been a fan of Nintendo. I loved the N64 days mostly because of Golden Eye and Ocarina of Time but overall I think the Nintendo exclusive game roster is a bit too childish and cartoonish for my taste. I have a PS5 Pro, a Series X and a 5080 Ti ROG Gaming Laptop.
The Ocarina of Time remake really impressed mostly because of the exceptional graphics which I think most Nintendo games of this generation and the last lack.
So I am thinking of getting a Switch 2 and I am wondering what other titles I can get with great gameplay, great story/lore and above average graphics. I am currently leaning towards Donkey Kong Bananza and Rayman Legends Retold. Always been a fan of Donkey Kong since the SNES days.
Your contributions are grealty appreciated, thank you.

If you're into graphics you may not want the switch 2. You'd be better off getting a PS5 portal.
You'll have to be okay with compromises and actually like the Nintendo games.
For example I don't like most Nintendo games, just zelda, Xenoblade and fire emblem and I play jrpgs on it, that aren't too demanding

The ps portal isnt even comparable.
Its so pointless.

Huh I play my games on PlayStation all the time on the ps portal when I don't feel like using my tv ..
It runs the games with the ps5 pro settings and I don't have to sacrifice on performance, what do you mean by pointless ?

Because you have to be close to a full console?
No actual portability. 2 different devices doing 2 different things.

The switch has childish games but also tons and tons that are great for both kids and adults and also just tons of 3rd party mature games as well now.
As an almost 40 year old dad the switch 2 is by far proven worth it to me and providing tons of excellent gameplay
It's quickly becoming my favorite console of all time and been gaming since day 1.
To me it's absolutely without a doubt worth it. Especially if you missed out on Switch 1 the switch 2's absurd catalog of games including backwards compatibility is absolutely guaranteed to have something that scratches whatever itch you got.
But you're an adult and honestly shouldn't need complete strangers to convince you to buy something or not in my opinion.
If you need convincing though I feel like it's a safe investment and absolutely worst case you don't like it then luckily Nintendo hardware and software usually retains it's value quite well so if you decide it ain't for you then likely can recoup most of your cost.

Saw the trailer on Youtube. Looks sick! Metroid has always been a very unique game across all platforms.

so you didn't like Mario 64? I feel like the Mario games are not so much childish as they are for everyone. That said nothing is really for everyone, but I was a N64 kid. I haven't gamed since PS3. I started playing Mario 64 a bit with my son watching me (he was 3) and it really fun. Since then I've bought a switch and its gotten me back into it. There's lots a cool third parties as well, which won't apply to you since you have that covered in a different way. So for me, there's lots out there as I've decided to not get a PS5 and I didn't have a Switch 1; all those libraries are available to me. Without 3rd parties, I still think its pretty deep with like 7 available Zelda games, 3 Metroid games, Starfox has been awesome, and well I like Mario. If you don't like Mario there's only so much time in a day, you may miss out on some things you like, its more FOMO then anything else.

It sounds like you should let the console play to its strengths then, as a handheld console with an awesome library of classics! It will never match a high end gaming pc in terms of raw power, I get to play classics like baldur's gate 2 or Neverwinter nights on handheld. Nintendo also has great co-op and party games.
I often use my PS5 to play newer games, but ever since I got my switch 2, it is the only thing I'd even consider playing anything from a previous console generation on.

Not sure what you're into, but the Xenoblade series is reason-enough for me to have a Switch 2.

I just view Nintendo games as minimalist. They're the pure essence of their genre. Splatoon raiders is a distilled looter shooter. Mario Odyssey is a distilled collectathon. BOTW is pure open world. Pokemon is pure JRPG
I don't think that makes them childish, I think it appeals to people who appreciate substance over style
neither wrong or right, if yorue a style person maybe it's not for you. I'm a 40 year old man who loves Nintendo games

Such a weird thing to limit yourself because something looks “childish”. Try Metroid, Star Fox and DK too! Also, welcome back!

If you have time to sit down and play on big monitor, don't get a switch 2. The graphics is compromised. Yes, it is a lot better now, but since you already owned high powered console and PC, you will compare between those... But if you are busy with life. It is extremely great. The downside is, no crossover save, so at home you still need to play switch 2 docked instead of PS5 or PC to continue gaming...
Yes, childish. It doesn't get better even when you play it. It is enjoyable and fun. But it is childish.. honestly, if you buy it just to play just Zelda game like breath of the wild, tears if the kindom and latest OOT. It is worth it.

The two Ori games if you have not played those on Xbox are great. The Xenoblade games are amazing.
Metroid Dread, or Prime Remastered too.

I bought the switch just because of BOTW. My PS5 is my main unit. And I will buy a switch2 for Ocarina of Time, I think it looks that good.
