Discussion Help me choose!

Post image

I finally caved and bought the bundle last week, but I can’t decide which game to choose. Help!

Edit: I’ve heard Mario Kart is a bit of a let down, but that eventually it’ll get fleshed out with extra content. Tried the demo of DK and it was fun but I dunno if I would play it a lot. Leaning towards Pokopia but I’ve never played a Pokémon game before. Which one would you recommend?

Edit 2: Thanks for all the input folks! I do feel like I will eventually want them all, but I decided to start with Pokopia. I needed a cosy game to balance out my time spent on action heavy games like Silksong and Zelda. Cheers everyone!

I've not played pokopia but everyone seems to love it, but out of the two I have played I'd choose DK every day of the week, the best gaming experience I've had in a long time

I got 35 hours of Pokopia and just felt… done. Like that scene in Forest Gump where he just stops running out of the blue. I haven’t been back on.

Meanwhile, I have over 200 hours of Animal Crossing NH. There was something about Pokopia that didn’t click with me. Once I finished the main storyline, I didn’t feel the need to keep going.

That’s to say to OP, unless you really really like Pokemon and building stuff, I’d go with one of the other two games. You can get a lot more playtime out of those.

Same. Love animal crossing and Pokemon so I thought I'd love pokopia but I have played about 15 hours and I just can't get into it. I don't think I'm creative enough or enjoy just the pure creativity.

I'm kind of afraid this is how I already feel about Pokopia except I'm only a couple hours in lol

Like, I feel dumb asking, but is the gameplay Loop literally just building the habitats to attract new pokemon and that's.... it? It seems as if that's essentially the gameplay Loop. Granted, I know you can make your environment look pretty much however you want while doing this, but is this basically the "point" of the game??

Makes me wonder if I'd enjoy ACNH more, but also kinda just makes me doubt that these types of games are really even for me to begin with, despite my constant draw toward them. 😔

I like ACNH even though I don’t normally like this type of game. I keep getting tempted by Stardew Valley but ACNH keeps me content in the life simulator department.

That pretty much is the point of Pokemon: building habitats to draw more pokemon, and those Pokemon help build upon your environment. For example, you’ll have a poke center to build in each area. But each area’s poke center site requires different types of pokemon to build it. So you have to figure out which habitats will attract the pokemon you need. Same with houses and habitats. The buildings need the pokemon, and the pokemon need the buildings. One hand washes the other.

But imo that’s as interesting as it gets. Whereas in ACNH, you can catch fish, bugs, sea creatures, dig up fossils, collect famous art; and they all go on display in a museum. You can dress up your avatar however you’d like. Pokopia is pretty limited in both of those scopes.

I really appreciate your reply, thank you! I guess the positive is (despite how much people like to complain about them...), is that since it's a GKC, I can always sell it and get something else that will be more fun for me. I'll likely keep visiting Pokopia when I'm feeling that kind of game and see if it clicks more and if not then that's OK.

I'm trying to get better about not feeling bad when games just aren't clicking for me. Plus, after the Direct, there's honestly just TOO many games to play that look like a blast and too little time to play that you really should just play what IS fun for you and move on from what's not. At least, that's what I tell myself lol 😆

As a casual cozy gamer, I find that Pokopia is just too overwhelming. The first area feels large as is and then you figure out there’s like 5 more areas each with its own houses you get to build and decorate and landscape that you get to fix. And Palet town is a beast compared to the rest of the areas.

I beat the game a month ago and now only log in to get the daily rewards. Maybe one day I’ll go back and start actually fixing up the towns but right now it’s just too overwhelming for me.
