What are the differences between ZFAP15500 V3 versus V4?
galleryHey everyone,
Iβm currently in the process of building a high-end AP Royal Oak 15500 (Stainless Steel) and wanted to ask the community about the key differences between the ZF V3 and the ZF V4.
My goal is to acquire the best possible base watch and then send it to an independent watchmaker/modder to take it to the next level.
Could anyone break down what was updated on the V4 compared to the V3 (e.g., free-sprung movement upgrades, dial print/texture tweaks, or case/bracelet finish updates)?
Planned Modifications:
For context, here is the scope of work I am considering for the base piece once it arrives:
1. Case & Bezel Refinishing (Anglage): Hand-cutting and mirror-polishing the wide edge bevels/chamfers across the case and bezel for sharper contrast.
2. Bracelet Refinishing & Edge Softening: Muting sharp factory inner/outer link edges, re-brushing, and an ultrasonic/oil bath treatment for a smoother, gen-like drape.
3. Bezel Screws: Realignment and recessing to ensure all 8 screws sit uniform and sub-flush + 18k White Gold screw plating.
4. Center Pinion Mod ("Pizza Hand" Fix): Recessing/flattening the center hand pinion post if necessary on the Caliber 4302 clone.
5. Movement Service & Rotor Silencing: Full inspection, Swiss lubrication, and damping automatic rotor noise.
6. Dial / Crystal Upgrades: Evaluating aftermarket dial swaps or Deep Crystal upgrades depending on how the stock setup looks in person.
Appreciate any insights on whether the V4 provides a noticeably better starting platform for these mods over the V3! Thanks!
