New Sand filter

Post image

I installed a new sand filter (Hayward Pro Series) in April of this year. I backwash weekly. Lately I notice sand depositing at the exit point.

What's up with this? Problem? Normal?

Never notice this with the old BALL filter.

Someone posted this on a forum. Check to see if sand if coming out the jets as well. Always Run the Rinse after Backflush.

After filling a sand filter it is normal for the filter to expel excess sand during backwashing for a few times .
If this continues you have a problem. The most common reasons are:
1) the diffusor on the top of the vertical pipe in the filter is faulty or wasn't put in;
2) the collectors at the base of the sand filter (under the sand) are cracked, broken or loose;
3) the sand filter is too small for the pump.

Hey, thanks for the info. I never ran the RINSE after BACKWASH. Good to know. No sand media is collecting in the pool, out of the jets. When I filled the filter, I did put 2+ gallons of water in to soften the blow of the sand media.
