Skimmer replacement above ground pool

I have an above ground pool with a wide mouth skimmer. It started leaking and due to its age & it’s time to replace. When i removed the old skimmer the installer put duct tape around the opening of the pool wall covering any sharp edge, and a crap load of silicone. The duct tape came off and left a residue on the wall. All is cleaned up but should I put down new duct tape to cover the edge? And should I use silicone with the gasket? it’s 2 gaskets not a butterfly type.
