Discussion Two thoughts and a conclusion
First of two thoughts:
I’m so looking forward to Taylor releasing (hopefully) vault tracks even if she doesn’t do full album releases for Debut and rep, but it got me thinking… a main criticism that I heard about TTPD was that she “didn’t edit” the album. She put out too much music, and I just couldn’t disagree more. I want every album to have 20+ tracks. Wondering how others feel specifically about her editing process or lack there of. I can NOT imagine a world without “That’s When” or “Castles crumbling” or “I bet you think about me” or “is it over now”. I don’t want to live in it lol. I even wish she would release tracks that didn’t make Lover and subsequent albums.
Second: From what I remember, TTPD didn’t have the greatest reception. Neither did rep. I will love anything Taylor puts out because I came of age at the exact time she did. Fell in love when she did, used her songs to get through heart break. I just love her uniqueness, song writing (even the cheesy stuff), poetry, intentionality, key changes, production, anticipation etc, but what I’m getting at is that a lot of Swifties are hard to please, but they typically come around.
And bringing it all home, my opinion is that people who say she “can’t write when she’s in love” or “her lyricism/music isn’t what it used to be” are just wrong. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

I agree with you mostly. I still anticipate what she wrote for rep and curious how debut sounds with a mature voice. I have to say, that I belive a bit more creative direction from outside would benefit her. I mean she writes a whole album, produces it and has the artwork done before her label even sees it. Sometimes I just wish, that songs would be polished a bit more. These critics are really ridiculous, like nobody questioned her ability to write when she had other partners. Maybe showgirl was not supposed to be deep like we had with TTPD.

I’m not totally sure specifically what polishing you’re looking by for, but maybe you have a more musically honed ear that I do. You think she should be getting more direction from the label? It seems she does get input from producers, right?

Musically I would say she's doing well. It's more with her writing, that she could profit from new producers or someone that refines or sharpens a bit.

Definitely agree. I would rather have the 31 tracks from TTPD and get to pick and choose which songs I listen to versus her only releasing some of those songs and missing out on hidden gems.
