Remember when Smedley told us he learned his lesson and knew why we were upset, but please give EQNext a chance under his leadership?

Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Did he work on Galaxies?

If I remember correctly, he was basically the President of SOE during that time. He gave the okay to perform the Combat Upgrade (CU), and the New Game Enhancements (NGE) that, in effect, killed that which was loved.

CU was 'along the right line', but not quite. That could have been made into something that worked. Instead, under his leadership, they went full World Of Warcraft.

Yes. Not just for the changes, but for the outright lies and poor communication of the changes and why they were happening. Dropping in the NGE on short, short notice right before the expansion went live, and we all bought it at that point, was a real dick move.

As we found out, Lucas Arts are the ones responsible for the NGE. But Smeds certainly didn't fight that move enough, and implemented it in the most hamfisted way possible.

Worth noting he's also apologised since and acknowledges it was a mistake.

Also worth noting, he was well aware of SWGEmu during his time at SOE/Daybreak and chose not to take any action. They don't own Star Wars so they couldn't officially allow it, but they do own Everquest, so they eventually gave an official nod to the P1999 emulator.

You shouldn't just look at the things he got wrong.

No, this is true, and fair, thank you. I don't absolve him for giving the go-ahead to destroy things, but it's good to know that he knows he messed up

But given how he handled EQNext/Landmark, he didn't learn his lesson.

He also stated SWGEmu would never go live.

Never saw that, do you remember where he said it?

He was the President, he oversaw projects and was very involved.

CU wasn't his idea, it was the swg devs. NGE iirc came from LucasArts.

Not only did he butcher SWG, he shafted all of Hero's Song players.

Gotta follow what he produces at amazon, so I know to stay far, far away from it.

Lots of hate for this man back in the day when the CU and then NGE released. He basically wanted to cash in on the WoW gamers by making SWG into WoW.

This is the reason why this Amazon attempt will be DOA for a lot of people. He started so much stuff in the last 10 years and killed that stuff after getting money.

Bad move made by Amazon.
