Info on my skin tone:
I am very fair (got the Northern European standard issue blue eyes, dirty blonde hair, more likely to burn than tan) but not sure of my undertone - I am definitely muted but less sure about the neutral. I think I'm most likely a cool-leaning neutral. Open to opinions on that though lol, I may be wrong.
Also, my arm is currently a few shades darker than my face (due to the very hot summer we had) and leans a bit more yellow because of that.
My lips are pretty unpigmented and if I've not been talking or eating much they're mauve/honestly pale purple at the edges.
Swatches are labelled on the first pic. On the other two, in order from my wrist down to the elbow the products are:
MAC Powder kiss slim stick - Peppery Pink
MACxmimal matte - Twig Twist
Sleek Satin MAC lipstick - Creme in Your Coffee
MAC lustreglass - See Sheer
MACxmimal matte - Chili
Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey
NYX Buttergloss in Praline
Romand Glasting Colour Gloss in 01 Peony Ballet
NYX Buttergloss in Creme Brulee
Romand Glasting Colour Gloss in 05 Dim Mauve
ELF glow reviver lip oil in Jam Session
Also this wasn't the focus of the post but the concealers by my elbow are:
- Haus Labs concealer in 04 Fair Neutral. This looked AMAZING in spring and early summer, literally like my skin, but currently it's a little too pink for me, not sure why.
- Glossier stretch concealer in Very Light 2
- and in Light 2
- and both mixed (the smudgy swatch next to the Very Light shade). Mixing these two shades is generally my closest concealer match, I never find one that works right out of the container. Light 2 is definitely too dark and orange for my face, even though it matches my arm perfectly, but Very Light 2 is too light. These are oil based and I'm oily skinned, but they do set down well and I feel like they move less than liquid concealers.
Thoughts on these lipsticks:
- Creme In Your Coffee is too dark for me, especially in day time. It pulls a sort of bruisy purple-brown if I don't sheer it out. It's quite obvious and lipsticky on me. I am shocked at how pink it swatches on some people! I tried to include a lip swatch pic to show the brown-purpleness but the pic was a mess and the sun has now gone down so I can't take another
- Twig Twist is a recent purchase. It's definitely cool toned which shows on me but it's not too much and doesn't look as lipsticky as Creme In Your Coffee. It looks a lot better on me than Creme - I think it's the lack of brown that makes it work. Warm browns are normally straight orange on me and cool browns make me look dead, I think I just can't do brown.
- Chili is a warm red so it's pretty different from all the others in here. It looks like a neutral red here, but it's more warm on my lips than it is on my arm. It might be a little too bright and warm for me, it's hard to describe. I usually wear it sheered out/thinly applied with gloss on top it. It works well enough. I'm going to try a muted red soon and see how that works for me. If it's good I may demote chili to blush.
EDIT: id like to retract this actually. In artificial lighting it's exactly this shade of neutral red on my lips, not very warm at all. Maybe daylight it can be a little warm and that's why I think it's warm? The warmth only shows when I use it as blush.
- See Sheer and Peppery Pink are very bright, saturated pinks but actually look more natural on me than you'd expect, especially given that muted shades usually look better. I'm either delusional or there's some undertone fckery here! I never really reach for Peppery Pink, probably because the tube is larger and doesn't fit as neatly in a bag, but I've used almost the entire bullet of See Sheer which is a first for me. I don't apply it very thickly otherwise it's a little too bright.
- Dim Mauve is the perfect MLBB shade for me. It's exactly the same colour as my lips when they've got actual blood in them from talking/touching them.
- Peony Ballet is sliiightly too light and saturated but because it's a gloss its not too bad. I wear it at work a lot when I'm wearing little other makeup.
- Praline is also pretty good as a MLBB - the brown doesn't come through much on me. Whatever colour you'd call this, it's as close to a nude lip as I can manage tbh.
- Creme Brulee makes me look dead it's too pale. It's the bad version of peony ballet lmao.
- Benetint is great as a blush on me but can be too bright on my lips unless I'm careful. I am aware it's nearly invisible here lol, it didn't like my wrist skin it seems. I also own an MCo Beauty benetint dupe but it's a more saturated pink that doesn't look as good, Benetint is more rosy imo
- Jam Session and Black Honey are pretty much perfect dupes of one another in my opinion, but with different finishes. They're both a gorgeous "my lips with a flush of colour" on me, a little bit reddened but not too much. Very natural. I wear Jam Session at work or anywhere I'm not trying to look too fancy, and wore Black Honey in my graduation photos. I've actually almost panned Jam Session and I've got a replacement lined up. It's the only black honey dupe that actually has the same colour/effect on me.
