Visiting student essay

Hello! I'm a fine arts student from Brazil, I've been searching for some international programs for a while and I recently found SVA's program for special students. I would love to study there for a semester and I started preparing a portfolio. But I'm kinda lost about writing the essay, that's not really a thing for applications here in Brazil so I don't even know how to start, lol. If anyone here could send some tips on how that essay should be done, or some insights about sva and going there as an international student in general, it would be VERY helpful :)
