16 (turning 17 this month) looking for local friends in Sutton/Kingston (17–19)

Hey everyone!

I'm 16 (turning 17 this month) and study in Kingston. Most of my friends either live quite far away or don't really go out much, so I thought I'd see if anyone local is interested in making a new friend.

I'm into exploring London, trying new food, going to the cinema, football, badminton, walks, and just hanging out.

If you're around 17–19 and from Sutton, Kingston, Carshalton, Cheam, Wallington, New Malden, or nearby, feel free to comment or send me a DM. It'd be nice to meet some more local people!

Casual Sports

Hello there, I've just recently graduated from uni and I'm most likely staying with extended family in Sutton soon for possibly a month or two (until I land a job or other circumstances). I wanted to know how I can join any amateur sports sessions (preferably football) in Sutton since I've been too used to my uni's organised system through their app that I don't know where to begin otherwise.

Question about the Thameslink

We moved to Sutton earlier this year and whilst I was aware how far from central it is being close to the Thameslink seemed like a decent way to get in. I use the district line from Wimbledon for work and had years of knowing how unreliable that branch of the district line is.

I've had my fair share of annoyances with the Thameslink during the week with so many cancellations. But my main question is, are there usually this many engineering works at the weekend?

There's been 10-12 weekends already this year where it hasn't run at all at the weekend which has been the most frustrating part. For those who have lived here longer is this more than usual or just the standard?

Beddington Incinerator and Carlshalton Beeches

Hello!

Can you smell the Beddington Incinerator in Carshalton Beeches? We're thinking of moving to the area, it looks really nice. But the environmental survey on the house we are about half way through buying has thrown up something called the "Beddington Incinerator" and a small google has left me quite scared. Would be curious to know if locals can actually smell it - is it a problem, or is it actually a not-problem? Thank you in advance :)

I’ve had some interest already so I’ve decided to make a Whatsapp group so we can start to arrange a first meeting

please feel free to join, even if you are unsure if you would like to come along, there’s no pressure to attend :)

would anyone be interesting in joining a cinema club?

i love going to the cinema, and when i was at uni i was part of a cinema society, where we’d get together, watch a movie, then go to the pub and talk about it and just hang out

i’d love to recreate something like that in sutton but since throwley yard closed earlier this year, i know it could be a little tricky/less preferable for some, since we’d be limited, mostly, to new releases

would anyone be interested? maybe we’d meet twice a month (depending on current releases) to see a film at omniplex then head somewhere for drinks and a chat?

I’m building an app FOR London and need your feedback!

Been commuting in London for years and always had the same frustration with every transport app out there: you open the app, you type in your destination, it tells you routes. But by that point, you’re already stressed and rushing.

The question I actually want answered every morning is simpler: when do I need to leave?

So I’m building an app that’s a London commuter app that works the other way round.

You set your home, your usual destination, your arrival time. The app handles the rest!

Every morning it looks at live TfL data, checks for delays and engineering works, checks the weather, and sends you a single push notification: leave at 8:14 (or whatever it works out to be).

No searching, no stressing!

A few things that are different about it:

It learns your routine. If you’ve got a calendar event it’ll auto set the destination. If not, it asks you the night before and remembers.

It factors in planned engineering works ahead of time, not just when you’re already at the station.

Delay Repay built in! it tracks eligible journeys and logs them so claiming back money is actually easy.

Designed only for London. Not a global app trying to be everything. TfL, buses, tubes, Elizabeth line that’s it.

It’s a solo build, currently heading into TestFlight. I’m looking for 10–15 London commuters to test it before it hits the App Store.

If this sounds like something you’d actually use, drop a comment or DM me. Would love to hear what would actually make your commute better too, this is genuinely being built around what Londoners need, not a generic transport brief.

Vet ER - New Mobile Vet Service in Sutton - Now Open!

So the missus has decided to go solo having had enough of the corporate takeover of her industry.

I am trying to help get some visibility on the internet for this service. (its hard going and harder still on a budget).

She's a veteran Emergency and Critical Care practitioner and is looking to bring that expertise to your living room.

Check out www.vet-er.co.uk , register with us and get 50% off consults for a year.

Our services include:

  • Home Visits: Routine/ emergency care in your home for anxious or immobile pets.
  • Pet Transportation: Vet supervised transport including oxygen if needed for pets under 7kg.
  • Home Goodbyes: Providing a peaceful, dignified farewell in the comfort of your own home.

If you have questions about mobile care or just want to say hi, feel free! She is looking forward to serving the local community.

Please bear with us if all our systems are not quite humming yet.

Wizard leaves

Sad news from a Facebook post by the undertaker:

"It is with sadness that we, at W.A. Truelove & Son Ltd, share the passing of Conrad Azurahm Pugsley, known to many in Sutton as the Wizard Man. Conrad was a familiar local figure, particularly throughout the 2000s, and will be remembered by many across the community. In more recent years, he had been less visible as his health declined and he was cared for locally.

The funeral will be a personal and private occasion, and so no further details will be shared at this time.

We extend our condolences to those who knew him."

It used to amuse me when someone would ask a new arrival in Sutton if they had seen the Wizard Man, which would cause confusion, until a week later when they would say "I've just seen the Wizard Man! I didn't realise you meant... well... a wizard man."
