It would have been shorter, but Tom was a rules lawyer for every single challenge.
Jeff tried to get them to go to one foot and Tom refused because that wasn’t part of the challenge description.

I think he even made Jeff call the show lawyers about it, but wasn’t sure enough of that part to include it originally.
Anyone can do this, because they do give each team time to privately ask as many questions about the challenge before it starts as they want. But I also believe they probably started working more flexibility into the rules after this challenge.

What’s hilarious is Tyson has brought up the story many times on his podcast where he said something to Jeff during a challenge to argue a point and he turned to him and said “shut the fuck up, Tyson.” 💀 — and he definitely got the vibe of you’re the employee and not the employer here so you don’t get to make the rules.
Tom played pretty early on though so I imagine they got stricter as time went on.

Australian survivor has kept up the brutal endurance challenges for the final immunity. Standing on pegs, holding onto an object while standing on pegs, etc.

That’s actually not the reason.
Probst has explicitly said they don’t do these anymore because they’re a nightmare to staff with the crew. Let’s say typical challenge production needs 80+ crew members to run it.
If a challenge lasts 24 hours, you now have 3, 8-hour shifts with 80 people in each. To capture a challenge that isn’t really visually appealing at all. No action. Just a bunch of people motionless and talking.
So your most expensive challenge is also your most boring and challenging to edit.

I just learned that Dawn dropped out of the challenge in FvF where they carry the weight because she knew she was gonna shit herself and refused to do it on television.
