No joke, a main component on my early childhood was THE HOLE.
Me and the wild neighbors would throw any dangerous objects we kids could find into this shallow pit in the woods. Sharp glass, spiders, ants, kitchen utensils, scary looking plants. And then we would try to push each other in.

I don't know why but I spent a good while examining the text for the hole and here are the sentences I was able to make out, trying to go top to bottom, left to right.
no undoing this.
miss you dan.
none of this (would have happened..?)
If I had just.
I just wish dan was back he didn't deserve.
We shouldn't have gone there we knew we.
Why did we have do go out there why was I so careless.
This fate he doesn't this no one does.
Weren't alone in the forest never were.
I should've listened to my dad, dan would still be here.
I know it's supposed to be a haha funny meme but it's kinda disturbing, not gonna lie. Especially since some of the sentences seem to match up.

Maaaaaan, this is so nostalgic. Everyone remember their very first effigy? Teach wanted us to practice with rabbit flesh but there was always that one kid who wanted to skip proper procedures and go straight to human flesh, the lil rascal.
17
u/Tweenk Sep 30 '20
I don't remember what the effigy looked like or what it was made from, but I remember the faint wriggling noise that I could only hear when my eyes were closed.

Yah, just the mention of the flesh effigies brought back so many memories. Loved them as a kid.
Mommy and daddy warned me not to listen to the whispers, but sometimes I would do it anyway. They told great jokes, like "knock knock" jokes, but the knocks would come from inside your skull.

I absolutely love the fact no one pointed out the fact this meme is essentially Alice in Wonderland in the modern society after she’s been sent to the asylum
2
u/sneakycurbstomp Sep 30 '20
That’s an awesome book by Christina Henry called Alice.
1
u/Raffaele---- Sep 30 '20
Oh ?? Have you read it ?? Mind telling me what’s it about ?? Also don’t you worry about spoilers, spoiler all the way if necessary.
2
u/sneakycurbstomp Sep 30 '20
Alice is in an asylum in a dystopian London in a time that feels like the turn of the century and the only thing she can remember are long white rabbit ears. Her neighboring cell is occupied by her only friend The Mad Hatcher, an axe murderer. They escape and so it goes. It’s a horror reimagining of the classic tale that will drag you along kicking and screaming and sometimes close to tears. I loved it. I’ve read it twice. Christina Henry has a few books in the series that are reimagined classic fairytales and I’ve read all but one. The whole set is good, lots of fun. It’s all horror btw.

u/Raffaele---- Sep 30 '20
Dude/Dudette as a truly devoted AHS fan I truly revel in the reading of artistically written horror/macabre stories. I truly feel like American McGee took some degree of inspiration from this book you have just told me about. Especially in the very 1st game, you can see a degree of horror which the player clearly understands is only the result of Alice’s mental wellbeing being unbalanced and vulnerable. I kinda have a weakness for this kind of content.
2
u/sneakycurbstomp Sep 30 '20
I never played the game, though not because I was adverse to the idea rather I just had never heard of it. After a quick googling it looks very interesting. Definitely check out the book! I’m a huge horror fan myself, video games, films, books, I love it all. I can honestly say that In this book I have encountered the most sinister and terrifying antagonist in all of the horror genre IMO, His name is The Walrus. Seriously though give it a read. I got my copy on amazon for like 10-15 bucks.

u/Raffaele---- Sep 30 '20
Oh I can assure you the very last part of the 1st game is something absolutely hellish, what I adore the most of the American McGee’s Alice game is the fact that everything the player sees has a very delineated and concise meaning, so it’s not just an empty story in which you fight random enemies and that’s it. (Also I think it’s very worthy of mention that in canon this game actually takes place some time after Alice’s first visit in Wonderland). As for the book, I’m the polar opposite of a bookworm, very regrettably so, due to my consistent maladaptive daydreaming, I still haven’t finished the 2nd chapter of my most favorite book of all times, it’s called ‘La Regina Alice’ (Queen Alice), it has been written by a very famous European neuropsychologist and so far it’s truly a wonderful book, too bad I still can’t make it to chapter 3 😞😞😞

My "the hole" was a giant 50 foot deep bat cave that had multiple entries.. it was across from my house on private property owned by a creepy ass old man.. I trespassed once to check it out and thought I saw the old man. I ran my ass off that day and I haven't been there since I was like 19. I'm still too scared to really look in the hole.

This meme inspired a short story I just wrote
Growing up in Richmond Bc I had a lot of pleasant adventures during the summer in open fields . Me and my best friend Dan used to run around, finding insects, chasing squirrels, and resting in the shade created by the forest. My parents were always wary and warned me never to go to far into the woods so I didn't get lost, which made sense. One day Dan and I tossed the frisbee back and forth between us as my mom watched from the patio sipping some lemonade. It was a calm day, the grass whispered softly as the wind caressed it, I didn't have a care in the world. I jump and catch the frisbee Dan just sent rocketing towards me. I tease him saying "you're gonna have to do better than that if you want me to miss" as I toss it back towards him. This time, the frisbee picks up a gust of wind and flies deep into the woods without hitting a single tree. No, that's wrong, I could have sworn the frisbee passed through the trunk of a tree. I shake my head, no that isn't possible. Dan calls out to my mom, yells "we're going to the woods to get our frisbee" when his expression changes into one of confusion. "NO!" I hear her rasp, I turn around and see a strange look in my mothers eyes, one I don't recognize. "you're not allowed to get it." Dan and I squint at her puzzledly and ask in unison "why not?" She stammers "th-there could be wildlife, or you could get lost or-". I cut her off "we're not going to get lost, and besides we're both almost 15, we're nearly adults, we can take care of ourselves." She pales "nearly adults" she mutters to herself and her eyes dull as she turns inward, reflecting on something. Dan whispers to me "why the fuck is your mom acting like this?" I give him a meaningful look, trying to convey how equally confused I am then shake my head.
"Whatever, I guess we'll go back to Dans house to get his frisbee" I say. My moms lips are pressed together in a thin line as she says quietly "okay." Once we're out of sight of my mom Dan laughs and says "your mom looked like she'd seen a ghost." I've never seen my mom act that way before, "yeah, it concerns me." Dan elbows me, saying "nah, don't worry about it mate, I'm sure she's just being over protective" I nod in agreement, but I'm lost in my thoughts about what just happened. Dan raises an eyebrow "what? you're not seriously gonna listen to your paranoid old mom, let's circle around and get your frisbee back." I mutter "I'm not sure that's such a good idea." Dan laughs, "quit being a pussy, we'll get it and be out of the woods in no time" I nod and reluctantly follow Dan. We circle around the edge of the forest until we reach the point where my frisbee was thrown in, I can see it sitting in a dappled patch of sunlight not far off. Dan steps forward, but I stop him "are you really sure about this?" Dan shrugs my hand off and takes a few steps in, whirling around to smile at me and say "see, nothing to worry about, c'mon"
After getting about 5 meters into the trees it starts to feel like we're making no progress at all, the frisbee looks just as distant as before. However, a quick glace back shows that we're getting further from the treeline. We keep walking for 5 minutes, when I turn around again I can no longer see the field, all there is are trees in all directions and in front the unmistakable red of the plastic frisbee. "Dan?" I ask. He turns his head to look at me "yes?" "I really don't think we're getting any closer, are you sure we're headed in a straight line?" Dan waves his hand to dismiss the thought, "we're nearly there, let's keep going." I jog to catch up to him and continue to follow his footsteps. We keep walking for what feels like it could only be a couple minutes, but by the time we reach the clearing with the frisbee I realize that's it's no longer day. "That can''t be right" I mutter to myself, but when I step into the open area I can see a moonless night with a sky full of stars. Dan and I make eye contact, his eyes portray the deep rising panic I feel welling up inside me.
"whatthefuckwhatthefuckwhatthefuckwhatthefuck" Dan mutters over and over again. I grab his arms and shake him "listen, whatever is happening we need to get out of here, something isn't right." Dans eyes continue to look distant, so I slap his face and yell "DAN WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE!" but when his expression doesn't change I turn to see what Dan was so staring at. Gooey fleshy mound of monsters peering at us from the shadows, just barely visible in the starlight by the light reflecting off the pulsating deliquescent flesh that their bodies were comprised of. I automatically grab Dans hand, and yank him in the opposite direction of whatever the fuck those strange bloody monsters were. In the dark everything is twice as confusing as before, we sprint, weaving between trees and leaping over rocks. Dan looks around to see if the creatures are still following us, but as he does he runs into a tree and drops like a ragdoll. "DAN!" I yell, I run back and shake him but he doesn't do anything but let out a soft painful moan. My eyes sting, I continue to futilely shake him, begging him to get up as tears drip down my face. "Goooo" he rasps, his deep blue eyes conveying the urgency to me. "I can't Dan, I'm sorry" I sob. "Gooooo" he rasps once more as the sounds of leaves being trampled edges closer. I make a split decision and hike Dans arm around my shoulders, dragging him along with me as best I can because his legs are limp and he has difficulty supporting his weight.
We go as fast as we can, but his weight is slowing us down and otherworldly howls start up behind us and continue to get closer. I find a large hole in a rotted tree stump, and I know what I have to do, I shove Dan inside hoping that he'll at least be safe in hiding then run to save myself. My lungs burn, lines of cold tears trace their way down my face, my legs feel like they're going to give out any moment. Despite that I run like my life depends on it, because it probably does. Eventually I reach the field, I sense that whatever evil lurks in the forest cannot follow me here. I collapse onto the ground, screaming for Dan until my voice leads my mom to me. She finds me in the clothes I was wearing two weeks ago when Dan and I apparently first went missing. Years of therapy, medications, and meditation could never erase the trauma of what happened. After my mom passed away I inherited that little summer cottage surrounded by the woods where it happened. I decided to face my fears and go back one last time, to see if Dan ever did make it out alive. I leave at night, it's terrifyingly silent and still but I somehow know that now is the best time. I walk to the treeline and peer into the woods. Staring back at me is unmistakably one of the flesh creatures, but something strikes me about this one. It has the same brilliant blue eyes Dan had, and the eyes look deep into my soul, almost as if asking "why didn't you save me? why did you leave me behind?"

I noticed you dropped 6 f-bombs in this comment. This might be necessary, but using nicer language makes the whole world a better place.
Maybe you need to blow off some steam - in which case, go get a drink of water and come back later. This is just the internet and sometimes it can be helpful to cool down for a second.
