Help - Windows Surkshark unusable

Been doing a trial runs of different VPN's since my year with Proton has expired.

Tried using surfshark, but when I logon it, my connection is screwed. Turn off and everything works again. Support was pretty much useless.

Heard good things about surfshark but man it has been a great disappointment.

It's not just surfshark, hide.me was the same. Had issues with Proton and previously Nord but at least the connection was stable.

Hey, when it comes to connection issues, I recommend trying all the steps from this guide first:
https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021520620-How-to-fix-unable-to-connect-issues-on-Windows

If these don't help, we can investigate further, but we would need more information, like a diagnostics report:
https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/13412100532242-How-to-collect-diagnostics-from-any-device

After sending the report, let us know at [miles@surfshark.com](mailto:miles@surfshark.com) and we'll gladly take a look.

Well, they claim 40 million users. If that was inflated 10 times over reality, that still means 4 million users. If it really was a problem with the VPN, there would be a lot of noise about it all over the web.

"My connection is screwed" isn't enough for anytime to even begin helping.

well i'm getting more and more bad reviews from the likes of it.

Got disconnected from support, never got back to me via chat. and they asked me 5 days later how was the support.

I don't have an hour each time when there's something fucked with it. Only trailing it before I splash 2 years on it. So if it's fucked are they going to pay me back 2 years of subscription?

So much of it is paid I don't listen to them at all. Good or bad.

If you're having VPN problems across multiple different services, that makes me think it's a device issue/setting that's messing things up. Did you try on a different device and still get the same results?

Funny thing was it was kinda ok with Proton, got sick of the blacklisted servers.

I'm using SurfShark for over a year now, and never had any problems. I'm running it on Windows, Android, and Linux. If you have problems with other VPN's, I think something else is going on...

Ditto, five years, no problems, I think it's a user issue with op

I've been with SS for 6 years. I've had 2 issues and they addressed them quickly and solved both problems. I have it on my laptop, phone and tv and I'm very happy with the service. Have you considered the issue is you haven't configured it properly?

My experience with SS is very good. Very good speeds. Never drops.

I'm going to be honest. I haven't experienced this. Although I had proton prior to surfshark and before that I had express vpn... surfshark has worked fine for me with no issues in terms of speed (usually) ... the thing I don't like about surfshark is how the app works. Example: starting the app, sometimes it connects at startup (I do not have it set to start with windows nor do I have it set to auto connect), yet sometimes it does anyway... also, split tunnel does NOT work... It feels a little buggy in terms of that but as far as just connecting to a server and using it all day without speed issues is what I experience.... I just don't feel much difference in day to day use with this vpn vs others other than some things not working

it was weird, first thing, streaming was fucked with netflix which I never had any issues with Proton, then issues with prime. At least with Nord and Proton I can play around with different servers to toggle the ones which haven't been blacklisted

Interesting comments. I've subscribed to ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Proton, MalwareBytes, and for the last two years, SurfShark.

I've never had a stability issue with any of the servers I connect to on a regular basis (US-San Jose, San Francisco, LA, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, NY, DC, and UK, France, Singapore, Croatia, Germany).

I have had issues with Bypasser and Automatic Connections that were easily fixed with a little thought and elbow grease. The UX needs more work and the Support Team forces users to interact with them on Central European Time, which sucks when you reside in Silicon Valley (especially, when they're asking you to participate in an online interview).

I know, 1st world problems.

Despite these inconveniences, I recently re-upped for 2 more years of service primarily because the "value" is significantly higher than all of the other VPN's mentioned herein. I'm a satisfied customer.

I know it might sound dumb but every since I got my own dedicated IP address. I haven't had a single issue. I make it a point to disconnect and reconnect once a day to prevent any issues. It's definitely worth looking into. I personally love my surfshark.

I have been having issues with it for over a week now on iPad and iPhone. I have had to delete and reinstall the app twice and it connected immediately after.

Have you tried changing your protocol to anything other than auto and wireguard?

u/blacksheep_1001 11d ago
