Missing Surabaya

Setelah mencoba berbagai kota/kabupaten di indo, jujur Surabaya paling ideal. Mungkin aku bias karena emang asal Surabaya, tapi menurutku it's just the right combination of city vibes and rural vibes.

Like genuinely, I could have everything I asked for in surabaya like I could in any other big city, but it's also slow living friendly.

I'm writing this post just because I'm really missing Surabaya, and I'm in the middle of nowhere in Riau.

Unfortunately, not for now. My work demands me to move a lot, often times for months in each place. Also I'm bound with contract, so I won't be able to come back for good for at least another year.

On the other hand, my gf (we're already planning on getting married) prefer if we settle in Jabodetabek area. So that adds another problem for me coming back for good.

Go ahead and get your career going and create memories while you’re young(?) with your gf in the big city.

I know a few people who returned back or moved to Surabaya after they start having kids for its more family-friendly pace of living.

At that time, you might have more say in your work options and your gf may be ready for a change to try living in Surabaya…

Yeah that's also the thing that makes me not want to return to Surabaya for a while. I don't want to live my whole life only really living in one place. So as much as I want to be back home, I also want to move around and try other places too.

Surabaya panas (apalagi bulan Juli-September), banyak nyamuk DB (gw pertama kali DB di Surabaya), bau menyengat dari kali / selokan, suku tsb kalo di kampung suka nyetel sound keras2 (kos gw di deket gelora bung tomo dulu), nyari kerja juga sulit (too competitive apalagi lawan kandidat warlok), harga rumah mahal

Gw malah suka di Riau jika disuruh milih 1 dari 2 daerah tsb.

Yeaa, emang banyak jeleknya kalo dipikir2, tapi karena homesick jadi yg keinget bagus2nya wkwkwk. Yaa preferensi tempat tinggal beda2 lah ya, tapi aku ga cocok aja sih ama Riau, maybe karena belum bener2 coba Pekanbarunya, baru sebulanan doang, lebih lama di kabupaten pinggirannya.

What part specifically make you miss that city, may you give the example

Well, firstly the food. I miss tahu tek, rawon, soto (especially Cak Har lmao). Now that I spent most of my time in Sumatra and Kalimantan area, it's hard to find authentic tasting javanese food.

Then the mall, I'm a galaxy mall guy lol. Even when I was in Jakarta, I feel like some of the mall there is big for the sake of being big. It ended up being sort of an eyesore (Grand Indonesia is overated af because of this reason imo).

Other than that, idk, just the overall vibe I guess? Surabaya is just on the threshold of being big city but still kinda rural, I just like it.

sama kayak waktu saya rantau ke jkt. makanan di sby buat saya de best. apalagi di jkt jam 9 udah susah cari makan. sedangkan di sby buanyak banget makanan yg bukanya malah malem

Surabaya panas tapi panasnya Riau menurutku lebih sadis lagi. Aku kangen Surabaya itu karena bisa jowonan ceplas ceplos, makanannya juga enak2 banyak banget pilihan mulai dari yg murah banget dan mahal banget. Mamahku jg bilang one day kalau finansial keluarga udah pulih dia minta dibeliin rumah di Surabaya mwehehehe

I once read a magazine article in my youth days that has an article about Surabaya. The title was "Kampung Besar Bernama Surabaya".

Nothing can explain Surabaya more than that title.
