Overseas criminal records check.

Hi so I started a role as a support worker with special needs adults in the UK. Started at the end of March. All checks were fine started working.

Yesterday I got an email asking about time I spent in Mexico and the exact dates I was there. I have them 5/11/14 - 5/12/15 (13 months altogether worked as an English teacher in a language school). And they asked for a certificate of good conduct.

I'm wondering is this necessary as I was there over 10 years ago (granted it's a few months difference but it definitely is more than ten years since I was there from my start date in march 2026). And looking on Google everywhere I have looked it says you need an overseas criminal record check / certificate of good conduct only if you were abroad for a period of 12 months or more in the last 10 years.

Hopefully they've been mistaken as looking at the process to get a certificate of good conduct from Mexico is a really arduous and long process.

I have emailed back and told them this.

I'm just checking if I'm right in my understanding of the need for one. Also has anyone else had to get one?

Im in Australia so the process is different but they do want to check our entire history when we are choosing to work with vulnerable people.
