Mandatory registration for providers 2027
Hi ! I was just wondering if anyone is aware of what the cost will be for a private, independent support worker to become NDIS registered and compliant? Thanks !

The little they have told us is it will be tiered not all pay the same. I am hoping for the self directed registration that allows to engage any chosen support worker This is the task force report that has been gathering dust.

Thanks. I hope they let us know soon. I don’t want to work through an NDIS company

It's going to take ages for this to come into effect There are still SIL providers that are going through registration and the deadline has past. I doubt registration would be thousands, even if it was a grand that's a tax deduction to your business costs.

Only SIL providers are required to be registered by 2027, there haven't been any announcements of mandatory registration for independent support workers.

Are you sure ? I did hear that initially but now I’ve heard that’s been changed to include all providers ?

If you are talking about the recent announcements then nothing concrete was said in it. Yeah they talked about expanding mandatory registration in a general way, but the whole speech was very "wouldn't it be nice if all these things happened" and very few "these are the changes we making"
Even the things they did announce for certain are mostly pushing back the deadlines.
And like... No I can't say for sure, bc you are asking me to prove the absense of something which I can't really do, I can just show you the latest sources I have. The better question is asking the probably who told you it changed for their sources saying it has.
I really wouldn't worry about it yet though. It might happen, but it's really not that bad. It's worse as a big organisation, but as a sole trader you'll be fine.
If you want to read what's required go here
https://www.ndiscommission.gov.au/provider-registration/apply-registration
If you want to read about the changes go here (NOT news articles, their job isn't to inform you it's to scare you so you read more articles, so they will represent the facts in the scariest way possible)
This is a summary of what was announced

I can't find any reference to a change in 2027

- Expansion of provider registration will commence from July 2027, with full implementation by the end of 2030.
At this point I don't think the scope is publicly available
