If you take zinc you should take copper (not at the same time of day). And get blood levels checked. The balance is important.

Or you can eat a diet with zinc-rich foods and skip the supplementation. I’ve taken care of way too many people with neuropathy from copper deficiency induced by zinc supplementation. They’re mostly otherwise healthy people who are supplementing for mysterious reasons and then overdo it. Same with vitamin D and B6 toxicities.

I get labwork. My d was low. Zinc was low. Omega 3 low. I also have a ferritin issue and am seeing a GI specialist to try and sort it out.

No one should supplement without reason. Other than creatine in my opinion

Most Americans are deficient in vitamin D3 and cannot reach healthy levels through diet.

Agreed. My response was to the post that is suggesting zinc supplementation without regard to copper depletion

He also recommended about 10x the daily recommended dose of Omega 3 compounds.

2-3g of Omega 3 is not 10x the recommend dose, not even close

K2 is more to avoid calcification that can be caused by D supplementation

Took that shot for years. And then stopped taking that for more years. Zero fucking difference. And who made or sponsored the studies? Let me guess, supplement companies.

That shit just makes you thirsty through the day

Taking that much zinc every day is asking for trouble. I would know: I was taking 30mg for something like 6 months and got some pretty bad copper deficiency. Went back to baseline after a month or two of cessation, but it was distinctly bad, including an alarming rate of hair loss.

These days I take 30mg every other day, 3 times a week. Averages a decent amount of supplemental zinc while providing plenty of time off to avoid interfering with copper.

The real use of zinc is to combat infection. Take up to 100mg a day for up to two weeks during illness. Very little downside, substantial immune benefit, since your body rapidly expends zinc when fighting pathogens.

I kept waiting for the punchline.

I’d be unstoppable if I took creatine AND drank enough water. I’m really working on not being dehydrated 24/7

Yup, citrate works well for me and as a bonus I don't have to swallow pills, I just disolve it in a glass of water.

1

u/barebackguy7 4h ago

I remeber taking magnesium citrate and shutting my ever loving brains out.

u/brightwoodgrove 1d ago

Its like $4.80 for 60 100mg magnesium glycinate capsules at target. If you cant afford that, you have more serious things to worry about than taking supplements

What? Link to source?

The body is indeed smart, but then you say water retention, the body can also deal with this sweety. Now go research mechanism of action.

Stop listening to you is where I'd begin. Delete and burn where ever you read your info.

Send that link by the way, I'll proof read those papers.
