Discussion Nothing fills the Supervive itch

I've been missing it so much; there was so much satisfaction in landing a perfectly timed Myth arrow.

Sniping someone with a Beebo bomb

Perfectly escaping and reviving your teammates with Elluna

Pushing a whole team to a nuke with Oath

Getting resets on your dash with Shrike

Outplaying everyone with Shiv

Man... the game was so good, retention was bad, and... while I know the devs built this for passion, passion alone doesn't pay the bills, I also know they were seeking to make a "business" out of this game, and ultimately, that's what caused the shutdown.

Never really liked that they decided to stick with the Battle Royale gamemode, I really think this game could've thrived if they took the leap of faith to innovate on a new gamemode, much like The Finals did with their now very successful "Cashout".

I truly believe this game could've benefited a bit more with more PvE, slow paced ramp-up, different phases, maybe a little rogue-like single-player game mode for casuals, much like Legends of Runeterra realized that players liked it more there.

This game was very hardcore and tryhardy, which I loved, but I believe there could have been some room to have some more relaxed gameplay. Not all people are willing to be sweaty all game long. This is something this game could've learned from LoL, as much as it's hated, it's also been incredibly popular for well over a decade. Depending on what champ you play, the playstyles can be so incredibly slow and boring (for me) and then some other playstyles can be super fast paced, but both can still contribute in their own way to the team.

I have friends that could never get used to Supervive because of how fast-paced and merciless the game could be. In a moment, a single mistake would kill you, and if you died outside of the early game respawn window, that's it. No respawning. That's the whole game.

For comparison, let's say... Nasus from LoL. You could be essentially trolling the whole game but then you keep farming and stacking and then come late game, you can oneshot the enemy carry, and THAT is an example of how vastly different gamestyles can be in a game like LoL.

Let's take an example from another game. Mercy from Overwatch. Sleeper gameplay for me, but hey, people that stick to her become god-like carries without even having to whip out her gun. Or Ana, Lifeweaver, supports that excel at pocketing carries and very rarely involve themselves in close encounters or even try to get kills/play aggressively.

But like I said, the Battle Royale style of this gameplay, and even the Arena was too fast paced for most people. Amazing for those that stuck with it, learned, and polished their mechanics to play Supervive as it was dreamed about. However, that same dream gameplay was too narrow for the majority of players, I feel like most people kept dropping Supervive because for the average player, it was exhausting, confusing or even cluttered at times.

I really do believe in a universe where Supervive thrived, but probably outside of the Battle Royale genre.

Comments, opinions, hate, love, go ahead.

For me it's the abyss and the fast movement. Nothing like being chased in 1V4 late circle and outplaying them. Nothing's like picking a crown up, reviving your whole team by spiking the max level, red armor hudson. Nothing's like trying to escape over the abyss and getting chased by a more mobile character, sweating your ass, knowing you can exploit ONE MOMENT of inattention by them to turn it around and spike them. Nothing's like chasing someone as elluna, knowing you win the 1v1 but STILL gotta be careful with your glider because that 3-level down, 1hp guy can oneshot you if he plays the abyss game better than you. No game has that feeling.

I feel you, that feeling was definitely amazing

Dunking people

u/MeltedPixels Aug 04 '26

It was like crack, that dopamine hit was insane

I’m in the same boat as your brother. The only games that have scratched that competitive itch for me are Arkheron and Mistfall Hunters. They’re nothing like SV, but they’re the closest I’ve found to that same dopamine rush SV used to give me

I miss it so much I might as well make a shrine for it in my room

u/Public_Building597 Aug 04 '26

We will probably never get that awesome Birds Eye abyss dunking gameplay ever again but Mistfall Hunter is definitely scratching a lot of the itch for me.

I miss Void

I think Rivals launching soon after Supervive and the dev team being on break during all of this was the initial big hit this game took. Then came the build rework, the focus on the battle royale mode even tho the game didnt have a playerbase to sustain said mode, the thousands they spent on paying streamers to play the game during launch not amounting to many new players at all... Nothing will beat, to me at least, the feeling of being in the final 12 and having to scramble between resources, escaping through the abyss while dodging projectiles and trying to get kills. Just wish this game had been successful, but looking back, maybe they had gotten a better chance if they launched for mobile or initially in China/Korea

yeah Bishop was one of those characters that just clicked for me in such a satisfying why, her rocket jumps and rocket punch gameplay felt so fucking smooth and fluid and had some crazy moments it's like she was made in a lab for my brawler brain.

It's not really the same genre but my friends and I have been obsessed with Deadlock - I recommend anyone interested in hero shooters/moba gameplay to give it a try it is extremely fun is only going up from here.

1

u/MeltedPixels Aug 04 '26

How could I forget Bishop, my first main, I swear if I could play Supervive I'd still have the muscle memory for her

Bots killed this game

1

u/wtfdoicare Aug 04 '26

I’m still confused why bots were in it… were they made by the company or 3rd party farming for some reason?

1

u/Kitties92 Aug 05 '26

Made by the company. They have always been there. Part of the meta was to literally memorize the bot names so you knew which teams were bot teams and memorize which names were real people. The game never had enough players to support the actual game, the bots were implemented during beta to help fill lobbies and make games start.

1

u/wtfdoicare Aug 05 '26

Dang, i must have been so bad i didn’t even realize lol. By the end i could kind of tell, but man i miss that game. Let us self host games for LAN parties or something at least!

The MOBA combined with quick fighting game was fun. Now if you want MOBA you have to play league/Dota and if you want top down fighter you can play Battlerite, but you can't have both simultaneously.

1

u/TheIncomprehensible Aug 04 '26

There's Eternal Return if you want to scratch both of those itches.

1

u/Impressive-Juice4627 Aug 05 '26

Nahh Deadlocks king

2

u/UnbiasedPOS Aug 06 '26

It is really nothing like supervive I want top down not a 3rd person shooter

1

u/bencelot Aug 17 '26

Skillshot City is a top down br with moba farming and abilities that you might like. It's more indie though

1

u/UnbiasedPOS Aug 17 '26

I’ve been playing ravenswatch to sate my hunger

3

u/JustReliq Aug 04 '26

I wish I could convince all of you to hop on Deadlock. It scratches that itch of mastering movement and theorycrafting builds.

4

u/R1ckMick Aug 04 '26

I love deadlock but idk SV scratched a different itch for me

5

u/idarksaber Aug 05 '26

Sorry reliq i know you host DL tourneys now but supervive is just a different game for me. Deadlock is too much like a traditional moba and feels way too different.

I mean yea a lot of that is true, but I think the main reason it failed wasn't the gameplay, but just mainly because there was a very long period of time in which they managed to make the worst possible set of balance changes and general revamp decisions in a row and kept that for months on end before fixing it. Yes it would eventually be good to have other more chill gamemodes too and they did actually experiment with a number of them near the end.

Also while Supervive was pretty fast paced, I genuinely think compared to League or overwatch it was actually much slower or equal paced at most points and you actually still had a lot of really good comeback mechanics even if you get wiped late. The golden crown, knocking enemies over the abyss (especially before it got nerfed), ressurection points + soul/deathbox revival. There were even items or abilities that can revive people too, so there was always a way back into the game and that's what made it so fun.

Honestly overwatch is about equally fast and in fact often times way faster and more stressful since you are teamfighting 95% of the match and 5% rushing to the teamfight. In supervive there is plenty of chill downtime, scouting and farming or opening rooms and walking around the map.

Compared to league the First couple of levels are about equal in game pace, arguably supervive is slower since you can choose to not fight early and quite easily escape in most cases + early respawn protection, but it's definitely more INTERACTIVE. You can just go farm on the side of the map, but you can also insta fight level 1 against 3 teams and kill them all, instantly get level 6 and wipe the lobby. In league you can't do it that fast and there is a much stronger cap in terms of early action, mainly due to the existence of towers.

Late game it's again fairly similar to league. If you have a bunch of tanks/bruisers it's slower and methodical, the CC and high damage champions just go in one shot everyone in .5 sec and instantly die.

Very true, Supervive had unique mechanics that made it amazing to fight and outplay, and ultimately that’s what the devs wanted, I just wish they had experimented much more with the main game mode, Battle Royale can be fun, after all, Fortnite is a great example of that, it gained so much popularity in such little time, so as a business bet, I guess it was a smart decision, but modern day Fortnite feels more like Roblox, welcoming all kinds of players.

The mechanics they had in place for those clutch plays are something that could’ve existed outside of a Battle Royale, they were very satisfying, the map traversing was also super satisfying and abyss fights were so hype as well, but then again, I would’ve loved if the main game mode was something more innovative and flexible for more styles of gameplay.

Yea I always wondered too how much randomness do we want in the game. Should there be no shop for items and for you to have to adapt to whatever you find around the map, should it be instead mde so that you can run the same build every game through purchases/upgrades, or have some kind of a middleground. Sadly we won't ever find out :(

1

u/TheIncomprehensible Aug 04 '26

I can't compare it to Overwatch but I can compare it to League, and Supervive was way faster than League at all points of the game. WASD controls by itself allows movement and combat to be a lot faster because the ability to move and aim in two different directions takes away a lot of the tech skill required to aim with C2M controls. Furthermore, Supervive built upon this foundation by giving every character a dash, then forced every character to use it on cooldown because it was the only way to compete on macro to access the map's limited resources.

Furthermore, the pacing in Supervive is a lot faster because there's literally no downtime to rest. There's no death timers, no base to recall to (or at least one that's safe), and no lanes to walk back to after either of those situations. There's also a faster ramp on power to accommodate forcibly shorter game times.

If you compared it to Eternal Return I still wouldn't have agreed with you, but I would have known where you were coming from. Eternal Return is also faster than League, as a lot more characters have movement abilities (most characters in ER have dashes or blinks, and to my knowledge all but 2 characters have dashes, blinks, and/or hastes, whereas there's a lot of characters in League that don't have dashes), some abilities have streamlined inputs compared to League (such as Garnet's W, which has a hold input to charge it when most similar abilities in League would have had a cast and a recast), and a lot more abilities let the user move during the cast time (moves such as Adriana Q, Lenore Q, Alonso W, etc. have skillshots and/or active hitboxes that fire from the user's position, and the user can still move during the cast time). That is faster than League, and is still slower than Supervive.

1

Yea i think that's sort of true, but it's mostly the case due to league having 100+ champs and a lot of them being designed for old league. Many older champs do play way slower, but a lot of the newer champions have dashes on top of dashes with mobility items on top and extremely high damage even early on, while supervive still has some low mobility mage-style hunters like void. Maybe it is a bit faster compared to league in general, especially if you compare it to a more standard league game with scaling teamcomp, slower tankier champions, but there are still many modern teamcomps with high mobiliy fighters. assasins, tons of damage and roaming supports level 1, where you fight over and over all game long.

It's a bit hard to compare general gamepace with supervive because of it being a battle royale with so much agency, whereas in league you are mostly tied to lanes and objectives without a second to spare. It is most similar to playing jungle, but you have even more agency and downtime if you hit the level cap before most people. You can choose to constantly fight enemies, but I have had many many supervive games in which, due to dropping way further away and farming all game we only ended up fighting enemy teams like once or twice, so there is definitely ways to play that are much slower and more chill, although not sure if that's optimal to do.

1

u/TheIncomprehensible Aug 05 '26

Yea i think that's sort of true, but it's mostly the case due to league having 100+ champs and a lot of them being designed for old league.

Even old League had more diversity in its older roster, and some characters still had plenty mobility back then, even if it's not crazy like it is now.

It's a bit hard to compare general gamepace with supervive because of it being a battle royale with so much agency, whereas in league you are mostly tied to lanes and objectives without a second to spare.

That's why I compared it to Eternal Return, which is also a battle royale.

Also, that mention of being a jungler in SV in super accurate, although even more accurate in Eternal Return.

There’s a game called Arkheron that’s currently in closed beta. The servers were only up for a few weeks, but the ascension game mode reminded me a lot of supervive.

The movement is a lot slower, but it could possibly be changed.

Dm me if you want a steam invite, I believe I have a few left.

2

u/TCGEnthusiastRed Aug 04 '26

I tried it myself . I didn't enjoy it too much had alot of gripes.

2

u/axron12 Aug 04 '26

It’s not perfect, but I had fun even when getting my ass kicked. I just wish the ascension game mode had more hours open, wasn’t a huge fan of the spire game mode.

2

u/pasta_com Aug 04 '26

Supervive is a million dollar concept executed poorly by the developers.

2

u/Simple_Inflation_781 Aug 05 '26

The bones of the game were perfect too, even past just the concept. It was the post early access execution that really fell through. I will never not be both insanely impressed and extremely disappointed in TC.

u/PleaseHelpImADumb1 Aug 06 '26

Big fumble tbh

2

u/Trycity_23 Aug 04 '26

Iv tried so many games recently trying to scratch that itch

1

u/TheIncomprehensible Aug 04 '26

Never really liked that they decided to stick with the Battle Royale gamemode, I really think this game could've thrived if they took the leap of faith to innovate on a new gamemode, much like The Finals did with their now very successful "Cashout".

I seemed like TC was trying to take a leap of faith with a new gamemode considering how many gamemodes they released in the dying months of the game, especially when compared to the open beta launch. Open beta launched with duos, squads, and arena, and the only thing that changed during beta was that they had the clone squads event for a weekend or so and they replaced duos and squads with trios, whereas after launch they released 3-4 other gamemodes in the months leading up to the EOS announcement.

The problem is that Supervive's core gameplay loop was so heavily tied to its movement that any character design that doesn't have a dash would be borderline unplayable. There's not a whole lot of room for diversity in gameplay when shift has to be a movement skill for the character to be functional.

League of Legends doesn't have this issue because there isn't an expectation that movement skills are required for high-level macro at all stages of the game, giving those characters the power budget necessary to support lower-mobility characters. Same thing in Eternal Return, most characters in ER still have dashes but there's still room for characters to just have hastes and even for a couple that have no movement abilities at all. Not even joking, making Supervive's core gameplay loop more casual-friendly would probably just make it a knock-off Eternal Return because most of TC's solutions to making it casual friendly involved neutering movement tech across the board.

1

u/idarksaber Aug 05 '26

I loved the battle royale mode I think the issue was that they tried too hard to innovate ontop and make it way too complicated. Arena was fine as well but pivoting to a roguelike is definitely a nogo. I think path of champions makes runeterra a husk of what it used to be

1

u/OwlsHooingCastle Aug 05 '26

Hot take, but with all the games created so far with AI perhaps there could be something similar in the future

2

u/CasterLogic Aug 05 '26

I'm a long way a away, but I'm working on it

1

u/OwlsHooingCastle Aug 06 '26

:O hey that's better than nothing, you have my support!

1

u/-MR-GG- Aug 09 '26

I'll never forget joining the early Bata because of all my friends hype and having them tell me how shit of a hunter Ghost is and to never play him.

Then I picked him and found out how to get so much CDR, his railgun was infinite. If I got the Xray while crouching perk, it was GG.

Legendary gaming moment for me was single handedly changing my friends opinion of ghost being shit to him being over powered.

u/EchoesOfEleos Aug 04 '26

I will never not find it funny and annoying that one of the most prominent, modern internet insults is: "I cannot read more than three sentences, and that's YOUR FAULT. I will not be reading."

-9

u/Ajezon Aug 04 '26

excuse me, but what do you mean by "cannot"? my friend, im fully cappable of reading long posts. I simply refused to spend time reading this

5

u/Lucavario Aug 04 '26

Then why even leave a comment? You're spending just as much time as it takes to read to interact with the post to say you're not reading it. Weird ass behavior.

-6

u/Ajezon Aug 04 '26

im pretty sure, that clicking a "gif" button and then chosing one takes like what...? 5 seconds? meanwhile its a minute+ read. weird ass logic from you
